I got my cap today and it works fine. Only about 1/4 inch clearance between the bottom of the seat and the top of the cap though. Did you adjust the seat any?
I did not adjust the seat. The only modification I made was to shorten the dip stick.

I used the PT tonight and the new cap was torn off with bent tabs. I put the old one back on. I need to raise the back of the seat or maybe the whole seat.

I have an 1845--I guess there are some differences in the dimensions and clearances.

I did not know you had an 1845. I guess that explains the difference. I should have known better when I saw the 1/4 inch clearance with no weight on the seat.

Perhaps this is a good time to remind folks to update their profiles?

Just a thought...

All the best,

Peter

Might also be a good time to remind people to look at other's profiles before making modications. That would have resolved my problem. Oh well. No significant hard done.

Today I raised the seat. I drilled new holes in the seat support bracket arms that bolt to the PT tunnel. I was supposed to drill 2 holes, but I made two in the wrong direction first and then two closer to the arm ends. The new holes are about 1.5 inches down from the original holes (on the high end of the bracket in the picture. I also brazed washer to the holes, just like PT did. I had to make new stop bolt holes for the bolts that the support brackets hit when it is down (sitting position). The seat has a slight tilt towards the front, which I can adjust by enlarging the stop bolt holes (elongating would be better). I drove it around for about 30 minutes today and did not seem to notice. I actually have about 2 inches of clearance between the seat and the cap now. If I level it there will be less.
