Rear tire bolt torque on my new 5085e calls for 445 ft lbs. Holy crap. My tourque wrench only goes up to 250. Are you guys putting massive torque wrenches with pipes on these things or what?

Get a bigger torque wrench. OR....use a 4' pipe and apply 111 lbs of force to it. I think that is how most do it.

you need a torque multiplier tool.

Yea, I know exactly how you feel. I bought a bigger torque wrench. With its super long handle I don't have to stand on a pipe now. Its still a bit of a PITA.

I used to have a 1-1/2" drive snap on torque wrench for a single bolt I had to torque to 600 ft pounds. Thing was a beast.

LD1- I'm curious about your statement. You are saying if you put a 4 ft cheater pipe on a torque wrench you only have to torque to 111 ft/pounds? Not sure I understand that. If it was true and you were using the wrench by itself and instead of putting your hand at the end of the handle you put your hand in the middle of the wrench would you double the torque necessary? I don't think so. I dont think it matters how far from the socket you are pushing as the torque is measured at the socket not the end of the handle or cheater pipe. What am I missing?

Forget the torque wrench.

4' pipe on a breaker bar. Apply 111lbs at the end of it and you have 444ft lbs of torque at the bolt

Heck yes I can get a 40 inch breaker bar for 50 bucks. Beats another torque wrench and saves my back. I'll use my current torque wrench to get the feel for 111 lbs I guess. I doubt it needs to be perfect.

A 40" bar and you might not need a pipe. Just apply 133# to the end of a 40" bar and you are set.

Or and easier way....how much do you weight? I come in at 160# So for me, I could simply put all my weight on the bar 33" out:thumbsup:

I just use my 650 ft # impact and hammer it till it stops turning=Tight enough. I know it wont produce 650 ft pounds of torque with the air hose I have and then only if the compressor is at 120PSI. I haven't had one loosen off yet.
When I check for tightness, I just use a breaker bar and put all I can put on it, if it doesn't turn, its good.
