Toothbars and Trees

Wal,

White pines (Pinus Strobus) are real pretty to look at. They make nice landscape trees. Just don't park your tractor or any other vehicle under them in the warm months. The dripping sap from the cones and needles will leave pools of resin on your paint job -- this stuff never comes off without removing the paint.

Robert,

I'll agree with you on not parking anything under pine trees. We found by experience /w3tcompact/icons/mad.gif that another bad tree to park under is a sycamore. One summer awhile back when we had one to many cars for our garage, my wife's minivan had to sit outside under our very large sycamore tree. Didn't notice it as it happened very gradually, but the light champagne beige paint job was becoming covered with teeny tiny black specks from the sycamore sap /w3tcompact/icons/shocked.gif Well, I got ambitious one day that fall and decided to just buff and wax those spots out /w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif. I can only imagine what the neighbors thought as I worked on that car ranting and raving all the while about sycamore trees /w3tcompact/icons/mad.gif I tried every sap removing trick and product known to man. The only thing that halfway worked was "scrubbing" it with kerosene. Even that was a very slow process. Now I only allow visitors to park under that tree. /w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif

Wal,

You mean visitors you don't like??? Just tell them it's a shady tree on a hot summer day that'll make their vehicle real cool but maybe not that real cool looking. /w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif

Wax remover (the industrial strength stuff from an auto paint supply store) will take all of the resin off without harming most paints. If the label doesn't warn you to wear a respirator while using it it isn't the right stuff.

Don't ask me how I know about this. /w3tcompact/icons/crazy.gif

Thanks Tim. I'll keep this in mind.
