Has anyone tried putting a tooth bar on their rear blade to make a ripper
of sorts.
I would like to try it but am not sure if it will take the abuse.
I would like to rip sod and small roots and scarify my packed road?

I would think it would depend on the quality of strength of the blade a blade is typically supported by a center pivot and rippers of a tooth bar would eventually grab and inflict the full load of the tractor on the end of the blade and it could bend a weaker blade. Keep in mind that a Box Blade/Rippers are supported by a braced or trussed set up to strengthens the device for possibly pulling on the outer edge. IMHO.

Ditto what Randall said. I think you'd tear it up in no time unless you've got a heavy duty blade.

But making a purpose built 3pt ripper/toolbar could be a very interesting project if you can get some beefy structural steel and have the ability to put down some deep, quality welds.

Unless you've got down-pressure back there, you'll require a lot of weight, otherwise the blade will simply bounce along behind you. If you put "enough" weight on the blade to do the job,... the teeth "may" inflict abuse on everything back there,....(IMHO).

Why not check the local dealers for a used box-blade. They were built specifically for the abuse you will want to inflict,...then you can go ahead and relax as you work, rather than worry about the damage you may be doing.

Cheaper in the long run,...than repairing the damage later,...especially the damege to your butt after kicking it around the yard later,...for good cause!!!

CHEERS !

Thanks - All very good points.
I guess I had'nt thought it through.
I was more worried about how to attach the thing than the
strength of the blade.
I like that LP scarifier unit, especially if I can attach my blade behind
it instead of a rake. I will look into that.

Gordon,
There are serated grader edges available, I have one on my 7' Bush Hog grader. It is a standard edge with a notch about 1-1/2" deep every 1-1/4". I can say it has greatly increased productivity with cutting into the surface over a standard edge. I will get you a picture when I get a chance, right now we have 1' of snow & its not done snowing yet.

I worked for a paving company and they had a international tractor with one tooth on each end ,and use it for scraping 1/4 inch into asphalt for making border , to set up for making skin patch on asphalt to make new asphalt blend into existing asphalt made patches look a lot better:cool:
