1) The machine will now be built on a spine frame as opposed to a box frame. The frame is like one "I" beam down the center of the machine instead of a box around the components. The engine is now side-mounted on the passenger side and a 20 gallon fuel tank resides on the driver's side. The frame design will allow for better component protection and a much stronger and stiffer machine.
2) 4 wheel independant suspension will greatly improve the ride of the machine. Eliminating the rear live axle and leaf springs lets the machine ride better and provides better traction since the wheels can follow ground contours better.
3) The interior has seen some changes in the control area. There is now a dump bed lever instead of a switch so you can simply reach down and grab the lever instead of having to look at it. Some of the other switches have been relocated as well.
4) The cruise control is now based off machine speed instead of hydraulic pressure for better speed control.
5) Boom stops are now integrated into the cylinder brackets so that utilization will be easier and more likely.
6) Cooling capacity has been increased by 30% with the screening being redesigned, the oil cooler is larger and the path is less restricted.
7) The box section has actually decreased slightly in size due to the design changes. No real reason why but it's a negligible decrease.
8) Basic parameters have not changed. I.E. 18 mph top speed, 2,000 lb capacity in bed, 1,500 lb capacity on boom, 4,000 lb tow capacity, etc. It looks the same from the outside as well with no real changes there.
9) Tire options are now available with 27" and 29" tire choices possible. Speeds and ground clearances vary depending on tire size. A true turf tire is now an option as well.
10) The machines now share the "Smart Fan" that is used on the K series skidloaders. It runs only when needed according to the cooling needs of the engine.

Pricing has of course increased along with the upgrades but the machine is very versatile as can be seen here on this site. With the ability to run some 60+ attachments it's almost as varied as the Bobcat loader. Those are the highlights.

ahh, yes
reading too fast at work

UFM82 - you seem to have the most info

did you find anything about a integrated 3pt hitch vs the current less than ideal set-up avail on the "c" models.

why i ask is that i have a friend that would be interested in my "c". i do a lot of woods road and pasture mowing and a smoother ride would be a welcomed change. it is my only complaint with the current model. the 3 pt would also open up some possibilities.

thx for the updates

Just wondering when we get a "look" at the 5600D from Bobcat. I would really like to see a photo since I recently purchased the C series Turbo Diesel.

I've seen a photo and it's difficult to see any differences just by looking at it. Check with your dealer they should have digital copies of the brochure.

If you can find a picture online of the C series machine you can't tell the difference from a D series. Apart from a few slight dimensional changes, it looks the same. The only change you'll ever see that is really different is if you get one with the big turf tires. It'll have wider fenders.

The machines started being built this week. The factory is ramping up to build these machines and the initial backlog will be heavy due to the out-of-production status these machines were on for the last 4 months. These machines are now coming into their own with lots of new prospects out there coming to the dealer looking for the machine. As the word gets out about what these machines can do, they'll continue to be popular. I expect a competitive machine within a couple years though. Once again, Bobcat will lead the pack and start a market and the copy-cats will all jump on the wagon down the road.

One big improvement with the D-series is a true hydrostatic drive system. That is just like the Bobcats meaning the machine will slow itself when you let off the drive pedal. Unless you use the service brake, there are almost no wear parts in the system. That means almost no service needed. That means lower costs and better profitability. There is a horsepower management system built in to the machine as well. You can "creep" this machine now with none of the jerkiness that some people experienced in the past. You'll be able to run the machine at high throttle settings for auxiliary power and still have good low speed handling.

As I get more info and actually get into a machine I'll fill you all in.

JM thx for the update

did you buy a tc yet???

my dealer told me today the had their bobcat teleconference/update on the D last week and they should expect nonretail (non-sold - for dealer stock) orders to show up some time this spring. he added that he was not sure how much better the ride would be but the big emphasis on the rear independent suspension was for increased traction on non-level ground. i will be interested to try the new d out and see what improvement have been made in the ride. the air ride seat out of my prior tractor is what i miss the most vs the tractor.
