This one has had me puzzeled for many years. It is very old, and very well made. The odd part is that it has brass faces, that look like washers, on the heads. No Markings. woodhammer.jpg

Yes, that is my first thought, but this thing is 19th Century. So maybe something else we don't do any more? I'm happy to say if its a nut cracker. Just wondering if it had some other use that we don't do any more: Aside from nut cracking. :)

One of my all time best tools. This is a Bell System KS-6854 Bridgeport. Flat head Screwdriver. It is special designed to work on old bell system telephones. This one tool refurbished many 100's, if not a thousand, vintage phones that were put back to use.

Actually took me a lot of research on this one. It came from my MIL's house in Toledo. The wedge end was for chipping off ice chunks from a block of ice and the square (tenderizer) end was for smashing the ice for drinks.

Wow! I think you are correct that this is an ice hammer. Love it!, that is exactly what this thread is about, trying to figure out what these old tools were used for. :) And maybe they were used in ways we have entirely forgotten.
