Wondering how many members have not been able to get their 1st cutting up because they can't get a long enough rainless stretch for proper drydown? Alfalfa is so heavy, it's laying down and difficult to cut properly with a disc mower. Farming on shares right now.

We have the opposite problem. Haven't had any rain in about 3 weeks. Suppose to rain tonight and tomorrow.

Most flood control reservoirs in Iowa peaked near their emergency spillway levels. Finally had about 4 days of dry weather. Rain forcast for Thursday night. It will be interesting in seeing how much hay got put up. The ground is soggy and will extend the drydown time required. I heard Lake Mead behind Hoover Dam is at its lowest level since the Great Depression. The west has been dry for some time. We are in what is being refered to a El Nino year but the NWB has not confirmed just yet.

We've rolled 580 5.5'x5' bales so far

Been decent here in Maine, got a fair amount in and tonnage is up per acre.

Although still technically in a drought, it seems we've had tons of rain. My cut was delayed almost a month, as it was difficult to string together enough dry days. Finally had to take the place in sections. Of course, now that its finished, nothing but bright sun :) Production was down about 15 percent this year - managed 201 5x5.

We had the same problem where I am at in WV. There were very few 3-4 day dry stretches that the temp was hot enough to cure it good. Many around us who round bale got theirs up earlier but we square bale and didn't get our first cut done until last Saturday. One field was starting to lay over and it clogged the disc mower several times. 1400 bales, but since we were about a month late, and it hasn't rained since, I doubt our second cut will have a great yield. Now we need it to rain and it keeps going right around us almost daily.

I only have about a 100 round bales put up and 600 squares, need to get 350-round bales and 4000 squares, this rain is really killing the production this year in western pa. I haven't missed any windows to make hay either. So yes, definitely too much rain to often here!

Another wet spot up by the northern border. We finally got a break from the rain, so I took the week off from work to put up hay before it starts raining again. So far, the week has had a stellar start. I've encountered blown transmission bearings in my Fordson, so I'm borrowing an Allis Chalmers D14 from my uncle. I've ruptured an inner-tube on my sickle mower, got it fixed just long enough to get half way through the neighbor's field only to have a main body casting break, dumping the main shaft that drives the pitman arm onto the ground, so I've resorted to cutting with my mower-conditioner using a tractor without rear remotes... not ideal, but doable.

As long as my baler holds out, I think I'll make it.

About 300 rounds in the barn, about 100 to go. Don't do many squares, and have to do about 300 of those with 2nd and 3rd cuttings
