Has any one tried 4 foot fence as trellis for tomatoes or some thing better than flimsy gages. Thanks

Haven't tried a fence, I use rebar. Bought 20 ft. lengths & cut them in 3 pieces. I use a post driver with the two handles on the sides that I made to drive them in. The ribs on the rebar holds the twine that I use to tie the plants.

Two rows of page wire fencing set about a foot apart. posts were 12 feet apart, wire stretched tight. Worked like a charm

round cages made out of heavy 6x6 welded wire.
holes are big enough to reach in and pick the tomatoes, but it's still sturdy enough to handle a pretty full bush.

Ditto on the heavy welded wire - they'll last for years. Stake them into the ground, usually only one point is necessary.

I'm in the process of making my own cages right now. Using 1/4" round cold rolled. Slight overkill maybe, but should last for years.

The best ones I ever used were ones I made from concrete reinforcing wire.
