I built a personal gym for my wife (and with her help) in my office I gave up for this purpose. We put 8X5 mirror on the wall and installed flat TV connected to SAT above that. Wi-Fi was already there. I will put a carpet on the floor tomorrow and order internet connected bike so she (and possibly also myself) could race with our children over Internet. Cool bike bike but I don't need children and others to be whooping my azz in my own home.

Sweet. We are just cleaning out our unfinished basement and having a contractor come out and finish it. We will be left with a bedroom, bathroom, common area, and most importantly a gym. Can’t wait to have a nice place to work out. Hoping for mirrors on the walls and also a tv or two. We do lots of video work out programs such as P90X and I am hoping to have more then one tv so no matter the exercise it is still in view. sure have come down in price. Any pics of your new gym?

Sometimes an extra mirror can eliminate the need for a second tv. (With proper placement).

Im too tired and old to be holding up the end of my trap bar with one hand and exchanging plate weights with the other so I made this "bar jack" earlier this month.

My today's shop time was awful. Actually shed time. For years, I have been battling mice/rats in my garden shed which is actually part of the main house. The droppings and torn insulation, ripped open seed, fertilizer, etc. The smell that my wife said she could detect from inside the house proper finally made me get out and gut the shed, ceiling insulation, everything. All day job.

Had to wear a respirator. Smell bad. A couple dead rats and one live one. Six Hefty bags of crap. A full shop vac full of droppings and feed, etc. But I did get it done. Will need to re insulate. No pics. Just disgusting. I probably knocked off 5 years of my life even with the respirator.

Those ******* critters better not return. :smiley_aafz:

I love the big mirror! I really appreciate having a space to exercise in the basement after a long day at work, and can稚 wait until it is actually proper finished walls and such and not just an open basement.

The mirror is two pieces 4'X5'X0.25" each.

Speaking of mirrors, what are you guys paying? I need to buy a couple more. My 4'x6'x 6mil (?) safety glass panels were over $400 each CDN. from local glass smiths. I was hesitant to use on-line vendors because of the freight hassle.

Thank you. The entire garage. About 1200 square feet.

Nice. I will post pics of ours in a month or two when it is finished. Just cleaned it out this weekend so they are ready to frame. I just have to take the squat rack apart and haul to the garage. The treadmill wouldn’t fit out the door, but it is on Wheels so I will leave it down there and roll it out of the way as needed. Our gym room will be a very odd shaped. I think it is a 12 by 12 triangle and the. The hypotenuse side of the triangle stretches out 8 feet.
I think it works out to 200 sq feet. In the main part.

You'll be really happy. Much easier to stay focused when you have a dedicated area.

Now I am wondering if it is enough area. I am going to drag the squat rack and treadmill in tomorrow and feel it out There is still time to change locations of a few walls,

My shop time was actually spent working on my shop. I replaced my old light fixtures with new 100 watt (actual not equivalent) high bay leds. I had no idea what I was missing. I installed 24 of them in my 50x50 shop. It was overcast today and it was actually brighter inside the shop than out.

That what I should do too. I have 14 2X8ft fluorescent. When the tubes die I will replace the fixture with two 4ft LED or do you think that one 4ft woud be enough. I have few 4ft in the garage and it seems to me they put more light out than 8ft fluorescent.

The specs and offering on the LED’s are all over the map. Mine are only 2’ but they put out 13,000 lumens. You really can’t judge these leds by size. My 2’ lights put out more lumens than five 4’ leds I looked at at Lowe’s.

It depends on what you do in your shop, it’s height, and what your walls, ceiling and floor are like but if you want it super bright in there I would aim for at least 100 lumens per square foot. I don’t know the specifics but they make led retrofit kits that I think replace the ballasts and tubes in fluorescent fixtures.

I know this may be a stupid question but why the mirrors in a workout room? I can understand having them for free weights if you want to check your balance or technique, but if you are running on a treadmill, what does it do? I'd rather watch a big screen.
I know I'm missing something, mirrors are everywhere in gyms. Is it inspirational, as in gosh I'm a fat slob and I'd better work harder?
That would fit me.

Ha! But on the other hand, I supposed some folks might see the images and say "Heck, there's no hope, so no point in even starting!". ;)

But here are a few reasons I appreciate mirrors (we have them in our home gym): Creates a sense of more spaciousness, equipment and activity. Also, when I look in the mirror I say to myself, hey, "that guy is working just as hard as I am!" Also, depending on how the mirrors are oriented, it can allow a view of what's on the TV screen regardless of the equipment you're on and the direction you're facing.
