I've been looking at one of the B2320 but while searching I've come across a l2800hst with FEL and field mower with 200 hours for about 4K less than a new B2320

I've got 3 acres with Two Horses I need to Mow and move manure.

The B series seems perfect but the larger tractor would be great when we build on our 20 acres in 4 or 5 years.

Is there a downside to having to big a tractor?

I have 17 acres but a neighbor farms at least 12 of it, I thought hard about a tractor when I was looking but decided on a 5240. The main week to week use for my tractor is finish mowing but I've used it for so much else I couldn't imagine now having gone smaller.

You didn't give us a whole lot of information to work with... :) Is the L setup like you want (correct tires, etc)?

I would lean towards the L but read and read about them first. Make sure the L28 has enough HP to do what you want. Maybe the buyer would give you a demonstration and let you mow with it a little.

Yes it comes with FEL and 5ft field mower

It has AG tires but would prefer R4 style.

I can speak for my BX... I am amazed every time I use it at how good it works. The B would be that much better. I highly recommend buying a HST model if you go with the new B.

If you really don't want ag tires I would just keep looking and pass up the L.

I would not want a tractor that was too big to store properly when not in use. I would not like to see my 10 to 20K investment left to the elements.
Considering the size range of the machines you have mentioned, it's much more likley you will regret the purchase of the smaller tractor than the bigger one.
I would say that the larger machine might leave you wishing you bought an even larger one, price not withstanding.
Get a big one

The L should be fine you could go even slightly bigger if your going to own more property without to much trouble.
You can go to big though, for instance i can't drive my tractor on my lawn if its been wet and and i never use it for normal lawn work. Spreader, sprayer, lawn roller, etc. i have no regrets.

My 85 hp M8540 sits on my 10 acres my buddies 95 hp Massey 5450 is used on his 14 he also has a smaller jd2040

I give 2 tractors a thumbs up as well. To bad the money thing gets in the way.

Starting a little big wont get you the buyers remorse that going to small does.
my tractor is definitely overkill for what i own and most people uses but there's been many times I'm at or near loader capacity. Most of the time slightly big is not a problem. To small is definitely aggravating. But the B series would likely do most everything you would want to do now.

TOO MUCH TRACTOR? :laughing::laughing::laughing::laughing::laughing::laughing:

Ok, composure is back. Go with the largest you think you might need in the next 10 years. You will want more tractor by then anyway. It is better than wanting more tractor in six months.

My first tractor (after a A/C WD45) was an L3650 (sold after 20 years). Then down to a BX. Then up to a M-series, and then back to a L (TLB). OK, maybe I'm not the best guy to respond to the question. :D

LOL yeah the Title is mildly entertaining.

Mood swings or just playing musical tractors?

Other then a larger tractor needs more room to maneuver...and,the extra weight could be a problem with your lawn, septic tank or drain field.

That said, I used a 35 HP, 3000+ lb Deere 4400 on my one acre of lawn. I also used it for other chores (bush hogging 4-5 acres, chipping, snow removal) more suited to it's size.

I'd go for the L2800...but that might be too small for your 20 acres. R-1 Ag tires would be a problem if you intend to mow your lawn with the tractor. You might want to consider R-3 Turfs rather then the R-4 Industrial tires.

When I asked my Salesman about the DK-40 being to big for my use. He said" it will seam like that for a week at most' Boy was he right. Tractors seem to shrink a lot after a month. Do make sure you have space for indoor parking as I'm working on a MF 135 that was outside since 1967 and all the fastners are rusted stuck.

We have a covered shed for it. Not completely enclosed but out of the weather etc.....

What would a set of tires cost for the L?

Expensive, since you'll most likely need wheels too. If you really want to change the tire type, price that out before you buy the L2800. Once you get the numbers, you may decide to look for another tractor equipped with the tires you want.

No one mentioned the operating costs of bigger tractors :confused3: working in tight spaces?

The new R4s would cost less than the difference between the two you're comparing. I'm for the L vs the B.

You may also be able to sell the R1s on Ebay/Craigs List, etc.

New tires and rims will run around $2000.

I've bought 15 Kubotas in 10 years and a couple of days from ordering number 16. I've owned the smallest Kubota a BX1500 MMM, most sizes of BXs and Bs and up to a L3240 HST FEL. I've owned several implements and even used a few of them. I mow/maintain 2 different locations. One is 4 acres flat and has 6 septic tanks (rental property) and the other is 5 acres of hillside (my home).
One of my most favorite ones was the Grand L3240 and it was the one I used the least and was almost the gladest to get rid of. My most favorite and most used was the BX25 because of the back hoe. My most used was a B7800 FEL RFM because I owned it and the BX1500 MMM (just hillside mowing machine) the longest. Followed the B7800 with the L3240 which I traded shortly to a B3200 FEL.
I currently have a B2620 FEL BH for my tractor uses and 2 F3080s for my mowing of the 2 properties. Now ask me if one can go to big or to little.:) I'll answer your question. Yes, one can do either. If one goes to little then they can sell or trade their to little machine to a bigger one and one can also sell or trade the to big to a smaller one. Tractors trade/sell just like cars and truck but in a bit different way plus tractors may actually bring more, less or the same as one paid for them after a few years of use. Depend on the increase in prices of tractors, financing incentives, brand purchased and maintenance.
Is the L to big for you, no. Is the B to small, no. Can you sell a bigger tractor quicker and easier than a small tractor? Depends on your location/tractoring buying market and the same with the to small one. If your in mostly residential area then the smaller tractor will sell quicker/better and if your in the middle of farm country the bigger one will sell quicker/better. Myself I'd rather try and sell to a more few acres suburban buyer than a farmer who wants/needs to pinch a nickel.:D
I didn't give you an answer and didn't intend to, just wanted to give you a different view from my own personal experience.
Oh, the reason I got rid of the L3240 so quick and wouldn't use it was because I couldn't use it at all on my rental property and it scared the pa toots out of me on my hillside property being so high off the ground compared to the BXs and Bs.

This is bang on. I have 3 acres and a DK 45 (comparable to an L4240 in size). Murph is right, at first it seemed huge, now it seems just right. I bought 3 tractors in 3 years and can tell you it's a lot easier to buy bigger than you think you need the first time.
