I went outside tonight to grease the tractor. Pulled out the trusty grease gun, place the end around the grease nipple and tried to pump grease into it and t ono avail. I tried with all my might but not one once of grease seeped into the joint.. ANy suggestions?

KM,
Was your grease gun stored where it was warm, also try parking your tractor in the sun to warm for greasing.

I heard of tractor owners useing a small propane torch to lightly warm up the area for greasing..

During the cold weather months I grease my tractors after done useing them..seem to work better.

Take care an have a pleasant day.

I have to keep my grease gun in a heated basement and also wait for a fairly warm day to grease the tractor or the same thing happens.

In the most recent "Fine Homebuilding". Someone submitted a "tip and trick" for cold weather caulking. It used those disposable hand / foot warmer packs with a pipe insulation sock. I doubt that it would warm up a grease gun that had been kept in the cold but it might keep the grease warm for an afternoon of winter tractor maintainence.

Would a synthetic grease be more effective in those sub zero temps? I wonder if the check valves in the grease nipples are frozen with ice. The lid hinge on my truck toolbox hasn't thawed since last weeks' freezing rain./w3tcompact/icons/frown.gif

Yes Thomas, my grease gun was stored in a place warm. The grease came out fine when I didnt stick it on the nipple. I think I will purchase a propane burner to heat up the nipple before greasing, maybe that will get rid of the ice.

Kubota-monkey,
That should work, but don't forget your still pushing cold grease in the lines which means more pressure..be careful.

Better diesel & grease up we got a storm coming, and if this holds true you folks down there are going to get a mix bag...yikes. /w3tcompact/icons/shocked.gif/w3tcompact/icons/crazy.gif

Be careful if we don't hear from you!!
