Cant decide
Hi all, havnt posted latley took a new position at work. Im lookin to buy A 4320 or up this spring and thought it would be fun to hear from you guys the pros and cons to A factory cab. I think my biggest hang up is backhoe compatability. Then again I probably will never need A hoe. I saw the 3720 cab at the dealers the other day and boy they are sweet /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif So lets let the posts rip on pros and cons /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif Adios , Mike

The only 2 'cons' I can think of is a cab would be in my way when in the woods pulling out logs and restrict me from the feeling of 'being on my tractor' and not like 'in' my truck. I think most of the time, I use my tractor when it's nice out, and the wind and air 'feel' good.

When plowing snow in winter weather that is below zero and blowing, then the cab would be great. Otherwise, ....... no /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

/forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif Those cabs look sweet.

I just think if you go with a non cab and add the curtis soft side tyou get the benefits of both options.

Like my wife told me when looking at the cab - $7-8K would buy a lot of carharts and lemonade.

I bought a nice used full sized backhoe for the same amount as what one could cost for my CUT, and it did a whole lot more work than a small one would. Also, when I didn't need it anymore, I sold it for a profit. If I didn't know that, I too would have said that putting a backhoe on a cab tractor would be an issue.

Otherwise, let me see, I miss baking my brains out in the summer, (that A/C is just brutal on me) I miss being covered with dust and dirt, I miss having to change my clothes after using my tractor, I miss having my allergies bothering me everytime I mow, I miss having grass trimmings blown in my face when I mow, I miss freezing my you know whats off in the winter, and I miss not getting soaked if it starts to rain. Gee, I wonder why I told my wife I'll never buy a non-cab tractor again. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

I think a cab would be great if you plan on spending a lot of time, say 4 hrs continuously, on the tractor.

Otherwise, like was posted, $7-8 k buys a lot of Carhartt's

XL

When I first heard that cabs would be available I thought big deal why would I want a cab on a cut. I really enjoy being outside on the tractor. Then I saw one and started thinking, I plan on having this tractor for years, do I really want to push snow in the cold / mow grass in the heat and dust etc...? Yeah there are a few disadvantages such as clearance but mostly I like to use tractor time as thinking time and relaxing time. As to cost, people spend big $$ on golf, boating, houses, cars and just about anything because thats what they want not what they need. This is no different. Probably most cut owners could get by without a tractor in the first place. When I purchase a tractor it will have a cab.

Thanks guys, keep them comin !!! Its interesting how many different opinions there are on tractor subjects. For example large frame vs mid frame, backhoe or no backhoe, gear or hydro. For me these debates on this form help me form opinions on optioning my tractor. Thanks /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I honestly like Carhartt clothing, but I'm confused how Carhartt clothes will keep me cool in the summer, keep dust and dirt off of me and out of my face, keep themselves clean, keep my allergies from bothering me, keep grass trimmings out of my face, keep me completely warm in the middle of winter, and keep me and my surroundings dry in the rain. I'm a bit confused as to how Carhartt clothing can replace the benefits I described as what I liked about having a cab. I didn't even mention the fact that you will recoup a large percentage of what you spent on a cab whenever you go to sell the tractor. Based on resale values, it sure seems that a few others like the benefits of cabs like me. Besides, my Carhartts last longer and look nicer because of my cab. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Comfort, comfort, comfort..............I have a tractor without a cab and a tractor with a cab. I will not be without a tractor with a cab and.......since owning the TC40DA with the cab the other Ford is pretty much parked all the time.

Winter or summer it is great.

I think it depends on the use of the tractor. My 790 Deere is fine the way it is. If's raining or snowing out I leave it in the shed and do something else. My father has a 6 year old 50 hp Deere with a cab. He's out screening loam and loading bark mulch for a living. He does this 5 days a week. A cab makes sense for him. When I worked on the dairy farm it sure was nice sitting in the A/C with the classic rock tunes blaring while discing 30-40 acres in a 4230 Deere.

I say take advantage of technology! I'd never have another tractor without a cab. No reason to subject yourself to sun, noise or dust. I've round baled hay with an open station tractor and it's not fun. Wearing a dust mask and ear plugs when it's 100 degrees is not pleasant. Having a cab with heat/ac and a radio just makes sense. You just don't get as tired. It makes just as much sense with a CUT as it does with a larger tractor.

Also consider the additional weight of the cab and the way the tractor balances the cab's weight in your decision.

Consider the climate, temps, weather, environment, terrain, etc that you will be using your tractor in as well.

I have four tractors with cabs and wouldn't own one without a cab and anybody that will tell you otherwise is just jealious because theirs don't have a cab. In my opinion they are better in the summer than the winter especially if you have any allergy problems.

Dirtboy. I ordered a 3320 with the cab about 4 weeks ago. I spoke to the dealer the other day and it has just shipped. It will hopefully be ready in a week or so. We had about 7 inches of snow the other day and I cleared it with my non-cab tractor (as I have done for the past several years) and I was covered with snow and frozen. I clear snow about 35 times per year in the same if not worse conditions. I look forward to sitting in the cab in a T-shirt and a pair of shorts laughing at the brutal winter (ha-ha). Seriously though, I have had several John Deere's and I did not want to purchase an add on cab, as they did not look right and were almost $5,000.00 without air. The cab for my new tractor has heat and air (15,000 BTU) and looks great on the tractor and it was only $5,000.00. I know some people will say that could go to some attachments, but I feel it is an investment as it will have an excellent value if I want to trade it in. To each his own. Thanks.

The above just about says it all. The only thing that I can see that Dargo missed is picking bugs out of your teeth. I've ranted on here before about a MF 275 with cab and no A/C so I won't do it again but I always find it strange that people who won't drive 15 minutes to the store without the A/C going full blast advocate spending hours on a tractor without a cab. Now there may be a good specific reason for an individual not to get a cab but in general it's a no-brainer.

If you need a backhoe .... hire one. It may not be as convenient but for occasional use it's a darned sight cheaper unless ofcourse, you just got to have one. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif We all know how that goes.
