Tire Repair Question

As I was warming up the beast (not that it was needed as warm as it has been!), I noticed something had punctured one of my rear tires. The liquid seen leaking is RimGuard (beet juice)? It appears to be a piece of wood maybe 1/2" in diameter. The tire is still holding air so I didn't remove it.

What is the preferred way to repair the problem? Can I plug it like I have done before with an ATV tire?

A half inch is a pretty big hole, I don't think a plug will work. Holes of that size normally need patched from the inside.


EDIT: turn the tire so the hole is at the top, and jack that side up so you don't lose the rimguard.

I had a 3" long slit in an almost new tire on a Farmall H I bought used 20 some years ago. Took it to a local tire shop, to see if they could boot it. That particular shop did not put normal boots in, but had a patch/boot that was a vulcanized type. Held well for the thre years I had it, and used the tractor to cut lots of firewood, running through the normal brush and twigs.

With a hole that large, I'm going to say Boot and Tube. unless it's a tire made with a steel belt.
