First off, another server ran the food without the mayo, but the mayo can be brought out ***AHEAD OF TIME****. LOTS AND LOTS of servers have EARNED THEIR **OWN** TIP IN THIS LIFE WE HAVE BY BRINGING CONDIMENTS OUT AHEAD OF TIME AVOIDING THAT KIND OF SITUATION. It's called anticipating customer's needs.

Secondly, the OP didn't say in his original post if the 2nd time he was delivered food it was by another server or their server. If it was the original server that took the order, then he shouldn't have messed up again. If it was a different server, the mayo should have still been there.

Also, his wife seems a bit dumb. I mean a side of mayo *IS* ALWAYS NO MATTER WHAT THE SERVER'S FAULT they forgot it. THEY took the order, they KNOW about it. It doesn't take even 5 minutes to get a side of mayo even. If there is no new container of mayo to open, it should take around a minute or two at most. She seems to have zero common sense. Also, if you can *SEE* mayo on the sandwich WITHOUT touching the food, the person that ran the food was at fault ASSUMING the order was put in correctly to begin with. The server COULD have put the order in wrong to begin with. If the server put in the order correctly that took the order, then the other server that ran the food should have noticed the mayo since the OP said that's the first thing he saw. If you can *SEE* something WITHOUT touching food, HOW can you not fault either the original server that took the order and/or the server that ran the food? Either way, a *SERVICE* issue, NOT a kitchen issue. Both issues were not kitchen issues. If it's obvious to the eyes without touching food, then the server shouldn't have delivered it like that. You ask to see the ticket if you aren't given one if you are running another server's food.

WHY? The person at fault is the person at fault REGARDLESS of what kind of restaurant it is. I don't understand why you see ANY DIFFERENCE in one worker that is not working hard vs. another? That's just seems stupid to me.

I don't care if you are at Denny's or IHOP, you should get a server that is willing to WORK HARD for their tip REGARDLESS of how much the food is.

Not at IHOP, you get to refill your OWN coffee cup, so there's LESS service than most restaurants have for that.

NO, the manager cannot be there every second making sure the servers are doing what they are supposed to do, that's just impossible. Also, whatever happened to *SELF-RESPONSIBILITY* for your actions?

the dumb wife comment made me lose all respect for this post. I didn't read any further.

It's obvious that you are not a server.. or if you are, you are stuck thinking the way your restaurant works is how all the rest of them work.. and sadly.. that's not the case.

If there is no ticket, and it is not common practice for the food runner to have the ticket ( manager or owners perogative? ) then you cannot assume the runner can just magically produce a ticket.

Saying you decide what to do in life is fine for someone who does not have to work for a living. Most of us have an idea of what we want to do in an ideal situation.. however life imposes itself many times.

Again.. your 'dumb wife' comment was very uncalled for.

Just curious. Does it seem "a bit dumb" to misspell the brand name of your own tractor; e.g., "John Deer"?

My wife started out as a waitress in various restaurants and got fairly good tips as I recall. One hotel/supper club she served at when she was younger had a door from the kitchen to the dining area that was about 2 inches narrower than the big trays they used to carry the food and dishes. She came home quite a few times crying about losing a plate or some other glassware going through the door and being forced to pay for the broken glassware. A waitresses life can be brutal at times and the bosses don't seem to sympathetic to them.

Maybe if she showed more cleave she would have made out better:laughing:

All that capitalization is just a waste of good electrons on me, don't read a word of it. Annoying just to see it on the page. I am grateful to the contributors who have offered much wisdom and valuable life experiences.

You're right, it is annoying. Whenever I see a blob of ALL CAPS come across, I pretty much ignore it and move right on to the next post.

Walt Disney World has been implementing systems that allow the customer to order their own food. They have a touch screen menu system that allows people to pick what food they want. After the order is placed, you wait for the food and the go to a cashier to pay. It is faster, more accurate, and of course WDW saves a bunch of money on labor costs.

They could have the customer pay at the touch menu but they have refridgerated items that can be picked up after the order. Not sure why they don't have these items on the menu system and just have those item's delivered with the rest of the food... Very few people pay with cash since they are charging to their room or paying by credit card.

Later,
Dan

Zombie Thread - Arise!!!!

Just to offer (a bit) of conclusion - we returned to this same restaurant this past weekend. We had not intended to be in the area at lunch time, so I didn't have my email correspondence handy (although I was going to try to dig it up on my phone). Anyway, when we were being seated by the hostess, I asked to speak to the manager, and she said "sure thing". In just a minute, the manager appeared (and I was messing with my phone trying to call up my old emails) and I introduced myself. He remembered our conversation (specifically about the sandwich and mayo on the side) and also remembered that he had sent a coupon for an appetizer. At that point, he said "Don't worry about the coupon - let me know what you want and I'll put the order in right now." While he was still there, our server appeared and we talked about what had happened (this was a different server as well).

To make a long story short, my wife and I ordered our sandwich (mayo on the side) and two orders of fries. We got our appetizer, entrees in drinks in timely fashion. The order was correct (mayo on the side) and the manager stopped by as we were finishing up to ask if everything was okay (which it was). The appetizer was indeed free, so I was very satisfied.

Now, the big question is: the next time we go to the restaurant, and I'm just another joe-schmoe customer - will the order be right? At this point, I feel that they have earned the opportunity for me to find out (again, stressing that while I'm not in love with this restaurant, both my wife and son really like it).

Hope this brings this thread to some sort of conclusion, good or bad. Thanks for all the comments along the way.

Good luck and take care.

My wife and daughter love a certain chain restaurant that serves italian fare. My wife always orders a particular sauce on her pasta, plain tomato - not the marinara sauce that comes with it. They screw it up 99% of the time. My wife complains, gets a free meal the next time they go. This has been going on for 12 YEARS. I can't stand it - it's like being trapped in the groundhog day movie. It's a never ending cycle. When I go with them, I know ahead of time what is going to happen. I even warn the server "don't let the kitchen screw up the sauce". Of course, they always do. Then they get a coupon for free meal. What is the definition of insanity?
