I'm shopping for a utility (6'x10' or 12') trailer for odd jobs around the place, and wondered if a tilt-bed style would be helpful in unloading things like gravel, woodchips or other loose materials?

I have a tilt bed trailer (8 x 20 car trailer). It's not very good for dumping gravel etc because it doesn't tilt far enough (maybe 20-30 degrees) before the tail hits the ground. It would make it easier to use a loader to get gravel off a tilt bed but if you want a trailer that dumps the trailer needs to tilt at least 45 degrees or more. If you shop for a 6 x 10 or 12 tilt bed make sure it tilts that much (45-90 degrees).

Our 5x10' with solid steel floor is worthless for dumping gravel we learned. It is great for unloading things with wheels without starting them up. :)
