I am going to purchase an 18' dual axle (w?brakes) trailer for my
Kubota L3010. I have a choice of tilt trailer or ramp trailer.
Tilt is $400 more and a little more weight. So tilt or not tilt. On issue for me is can I load tractor when trailer is discunnected from
truck and if so, is one type tailer better for loading unattached?
Thanks. /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

Brakes for sure, some states require it for trailers.
According to the GVW of the trailer, brakes on one or both axles.
You will be a lot safer on the road.

I would not attempt to drive anything on a trailer unattached from the vehicle....

On some tilt trailers "depending on tilt construction" it is possible.. Not for me... Roll away, Lots of banging and wiggling on a jack stand, Difficult to couple to your vehicle after loaded.

I just bought a 20' tilt bed in Sept. So far I like the tilt bed over my previous 16' homemade beavertail with fold down ramps. (there's a couple pics in photo sect. other brands/mahindra. Double axles over 3000# rated come std. with brakes on at least one axle. It's the law for trailers over 3000#. I went with brakes on both axles. I would not try to load anything on any trailer not hooked up to vehicle. That's an accident waiting to happen. Good Luck

I like my 18' tilt bed with dual brakes for my Kubota 3010. The tilt bed is critical if you are trying to move several implements at once, along with your tractor, such as a backhoe and a box scraper, just drag it up. Also handy for loading heavy items, such as discs and cultipackers, with a come-a-long, a small electric winch would nice. Unloading is a breeze. Sometimes you might not have a loader at both ends of trip. I have not tried loading/unloading a tractor from a disconnected trailor, but I'll try it out next time with blocked tires.

-es, brakes, both axles. If it needs 4 wheels, it needs four brakes.

-Mine is ramp with dovetail. I see no problems. The tilt mechanism can only take away from the strength and add moving parts to wear and break. My ramps are the kind that come off the deck and slide in from the side, and that moving of the ramps is the only bummer. I prefer ramp over tilt, maybe a little bias.

- With the proper stabilizer jacks and blocking, the ramp trailer can be loaded while unattached. I would much rather do it while attached though. No moving things and the trailer becomes a stable platform to drive up on.

I own an 18' with 2 foot dovetail made by PJ trailers, they have a website with pitcures. I bought the 10,000 lb GVWR version to tow my 4000 lb tractor with a healthy safety margin. I am very impressed with this trailer and it continues to turn heads.

I went with a small beavertail trailer for hauling my ATV occasionally, but mostly for hauling my riding mower and other lawn and garden equipment, to help take care of my Mom's place.
What I did not like about tilt trailers was the way they slam down as you go up on to them and the fact that after I put the riding mower on I would need to find ramps to get anything else, like my Troybilt tiller, on to the trailer.
I think either type could be loaded without being connected to your truck... BUT that is not a good idea in my opinion.

We got a 20' lowbed with ramps when we got our 3830, which is about the same physical size as your 3010. To tell you the truth, I wouldn't mind a couple extra feet of length when the backhoe or the bushog is attached - they hang over the back. As has been said many times in these forums, it's nice to have extra room to move the tractor's position to get the weight balanced right. Our ramps have legs on them, so by blocking the trailer wheels we can load and unload, but don't try it without blocking the wheels. (Don't ask me how I know this.)

I've been hauling my tractor in a dump trailer with removable ramps that store over the fenders. Removable ramps are a pain as they get heavier every year. Fold down ramps might be nice but if I could justify a 2nd trailer, it would be a tilt. Anything that makes loading and unloading easier is multiplied by 4 on a round trip.

I am surpised you can get away with an 18' trailer. My Branson 3510i with the FEL and 5' Mower is a little over 20' long. Do you raise the FEL and let it hang over the front of trailer? Does anybody have pics on how they load?

Thanks

I have had 3 trailers with ramps and one with tilt for about 1.5 years now. It is an H&H hydraulic tilt 10,000 GVW with a 20' bed. It is much safer than conventional ramps and easier. I would highly recommend going with a tilt, it is worth a few extra bucks. Here is a picture of mine with my L4330 on it.
