I'm looking to buy a tiller and was wondering just which size I would be able to run in the sandy soils of central Florida. I know that my 4310 will run a 5 ft with ease but would I be able to run a 6 ft? Will 27 pto hp be enough for me to run one. I know our ground is much softer than most of the northern soils so I think it might work. I just hate to buy a 6 ft and then find out that it won't work. What ground speed do you operate your tractor at when tilling? Thanks for your help!

If it runs the 5' one "with ease", which is what I would expect, I think you'd be OK with a 6' one, but no guarantees. /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif And I think the more or less "normal" tilling speed is about one MPH.

I had a 770 JD with 24 hp and it ran a 5 with no problem here in VA. I think you will be fine with a 6 ft if you want.

I pretty much have the same type soil in Jacksonville. I run a 52" tiller on my 15.5 PTO HP CK20 with no problem. I have no doubt that a 6' won't be any problem for you at all.

I have HST, and at times, I'm sure I don't go faster than 0.5 mph when tilling virgin territory, but if you can get 1 MPH, you'll probably be okay. The virgin stuff is a little tougher, but not too bad here.

Yea, my wife runs a 6' JD tiller on her 4300 CS, we have clay soil and it runs just fine, makes it baby powder when she gets off the tractor, which is never! Have fun and buy away.
