30mph? Wow, I can't go that fast on smooth level Coastal Bermuda on sandy loam without feeling like my tractor is going to bounce all over the place, can't imagine driving that fast while tilling the ground also.
I missed that.. likely a new sport.. speed tilling…

Do you have economy PTO? Mine does, which actually allows me to throttle down a bit, use less HP and fuel and still run at 540 PTO rpm

The new tractor — a Yanmar yt359C has the ability to set the PTO speed outside of engine RPM. It’s really slick

I say - it depends a lot on the type of soil you will be tilling. Sand or highly organic soil - no problem.

Rocky soil can create problems - no matter the tiller size or the tractor Hp.

If you are serious about this and you DO have rocky soil. Hit it first with a single bottom moldboard plow. Then a wheelbarrow and the whole gang - picking the surfaced rocks. The subsurface rocks will have been loosened by the moldboard plow and, if you go slow, should not damage the rototiller.

Revisiting this a year later..
In the last year I picked up a 6ft pulverizer… so my thought is to use it to soften up the dirt.. then till it.. that should be a good means to prep it for grass..

Thoughts?

What is a pulveriser???
I am in a different country and have found that US terms are frequently differnt to those in my country. ie US = disc harrow wtf???
To me discs and harrows are 2 completely different cultivation tools with 2 diffferent jobs.

If you keep an eye on the tines to insure they are rotating and the clutch to insure it isn't smoking I think you can do it. Especially since your tractor has the ability to set the PTO speed outside of engine RPM.

if you know you have more power than an implement will take... just take it easy when using the implement.
Even though when engaged your tractor will turn it full RPM and you can pull 5 mph just don't do it. Keep your speed down and be kind to the tiller and all will will be fine.
