Good morning.
We are considering an FRC 800, maybe your not at all familiar with this model but I haven’t found anything negative at all online.
Going to look at it tomm, guy wants 1500 for it, a lot of money.
Appears to be a 2002 ( approx ) model judging by an emissions sticker.
What can you suggest we look out for problems wise?
Too much money?
Looking online it appears to be a fair amount if not on the cheaper side.

Tell the seller you want it dead cold when you arrive. Check the oil (black?). Check for anything loose.

Then fire it up and start tilling.

Oh, check wear on blades. That might tell you if it has been lightly used or heavily used.

Ask for a new blade so you have something to compare the old ones
to

Price seems high to me. I'd offer 1K

This one is in CT $900

The photos from the OP look very clean. As if it was just used for a home garden and parked in the garage most of the time.

The rental company's tiller may well be newer. However, it looks rather worn. And, as a rental, I'd expect it to be beat up. There are broken pieces of plastic around the air cleaner.

It is a good example, but also 1000 miles from the OP would kill any savings if it was shipped or picked up.

Now a 20 year old machine that has been sitting for a while may need a tune-up. And carburetors sometimes need cleaned due to ethanol. At some point around 20 years ago many small engines got a primer pump to aid with starting. That helps a lot. However, they also go bad with time and may need replaced.

Still, a well designed small engine with a good choke can do well for starting.

I put that up just look at the price $900 so I would say
what your looking at is kinda pricey

Seems pretty steep for a used, 20 year old tiller?View attachment 846169
That Cub Cadet model RT65 you pictured is the one to buy if the OP can find one. I have one. They were sold at TSC before Covid for $900.
It is a good, heavy tiller that spins both ways.
Mine has started on the first or second pull every time.
