I really want a weed badger, but they are too much money for me. Last year I tilled under my grapes by tilting my 3pt tiller crooked (at an angle) tnd then shifting it as far to one side as I could. It worked OK, but was still not ideal.

Here is my idea: I'm thinking about removing the tines from all but one side so that I only have an 18" tilled are and then maybe having the attachment points moved over a little bit so that it sticks out from the tractor about a foot. This will allow me to till a narrow swath onder the vines.

Can anyone think of a reason that this might not work? Will tines on one side only cause any problems with the bearings or whatever else?

Run it long enough that way and the rotor will wear where it is unprotected by tined. Eventually, you won't be able to bolt tines to it.

Give it a try and see how it goes. :D You may be happily surprised.:D

Any problems with the drive shaft angle?

I have removed the outer row of tines on my tiller when the going was too hard for my little tractor. No adverse affects were noticed.
