Now there’s some thread drift

About 20 years ago, I read a research paper written by an economist asking the question how Colombia became the murder capital of the world? His answer was that they lost control over policing low level offenses which then escalated into worse offenses to the point where judges and prosecutors who tried to enforce the law got murdered. He also raised the hypothetical question whether the USA could ever get into the same situation, but then wrote that the USA would devote enough prosecution resources to stop that from happening. But after watching videos of how businesses are boarded up and shut down in downtown cities in California while the police watch from a distance, it remains to be seen where we go from here.

Going to also say this about people making regulations. They seem to never be content with the level of regulation they have. On some level, I suspect they feel the need for more regulations just to justify that they are actually doing something to earn their high dollar pay.

IMO, it's not necessarily thread thrift to point out the inconsistency between protecting air quality with these regulations, but failing to enforce basic laws for the safety and security of the public.

Like someone posted earlier, Tier 5 will be a large noose on diesels to go after the 5% remaining emissions not satisfactory caught in Tier 4. That last 5% is only a small improvement but will require a large expense.

It’s not about clean air. It’s politics. It’s about transitioning from fossil fuels, to the regulated electric grid

Maybe it's a lack of the fundamentals understanding governments role under the Constitution?

Did Congress adopt tier V or is what we are facing done administratively?

There is only one way to eliminate diesel particulates and that is by banning the operation of diesel engines...

Maybe the end game after all.

When the darling of the Green Movement says no more it should at least raise consciousness.

Honda met emission standards at a time when everyone else could only do so with converters...

Honda builds some very efficient and quiet power equipment on the planet but says it can no longer do business in California???

Honda made the best diesel generators for movie studios but you no longer see them in California...

Enough power for a large home yet quieter than a typical refrigerator plus amazingly low fuel consumption.

The US Supreme court caved to the threat that FDR would pack the court with judges who'd do his bidding in the 1930s and that is fundamentally why rulemaking by nonelected officials at federal agencies began and has grown to where it is today.

Little Irony… People who live and work in cities, are subjected to constant tailpipe emissions from all the traffic. According to the EPA’s tier 5 “reason for implementation “ , city people should be dropping like flies, dead bodies stacked like cordwood….
…yet all the statistics show people in cities actually live longer than people out in the country
🤔

Of course any politician/scientist, can probably explain that irony, with some convenient alternative statistics, like distance to hospitals, bla, bla

Reminds me of all the politicians mandating no more new gas cook stoves, because little Jonny might have asthma, and it could make it irritated.
What about the 95% of the people who don’t have little Jonney with asthma?
Notice they don't simply mandate the inclusion of an electric stove outlet in new buildings?
That of course would give common folks, the choice of appliance.
Notice instead they simply take away your choice?

@Fixastuff,

You may not be living in a place like that now.
However, the effects of 10 MILLION new illegal immigrants is starting to be felt everywhere, even small more rural areas like yours and mine.

This never happened in MY area, until now.

Then my once-crimeless sleepy little rural community got a month long terrorizing by this little beauty

There is money in Diesel particulates for California at least.

Yeah… it’s kinda interesting to bounce around the concept in your head, that all the evidence of wrongdoing uses nationwide statistics of all the vesicles sold , and how much damage to people they did, yet, all the 1.675 Billion dollars , plus some other assorted millions go to one, single state.

I guess it can be used to help fund that state’s new “free” healthcare for illegal immigrants program
