I have a 1610D and wondered if the throttle is supposed to have a detent when going from idle to fuel cutoff. My throttle has no change in friction at all. My parts book shows a ball/spring on the side of the throttle that I thought might act as a detent.

Thanks,

Is the ball/spring there?

I didn't see them when I took everything off to rebuild the steering box. I need to take the side cover off and see if this is even the same throttle linkage that the tractor should have and if there is a place for the spring/ball. I just wanted to know if the tractor should have a "stop" at the idle point, which it doesn't do.

thanks,

My 1602D doesn't, I just pull out on the fuel shutoff to stop the engine. On the throttle, mine is set up to where all the way forward is just the idle, it doesn't shut it off that way. It uses a friction washer to hold it in position, no ball and spring setup........FWIW.

My 1610D doesn't have a separate fuel shutoff. You have to push the throttle all the way forward.

Jagman,

What you are pulling out and you called the fuel shut off is probably the compression release which holds the exhaust valves open. It should shut off with the throttle lever. If it does not it need to be adjusted.
My 1510D had to be adjusted at the pump (rack) so that it would shut off when the throttle lever was pushed all the way forward.

Mine does have a compression release but I would certainly never shut it off with that. Mine does shut off when I push the hand throttle all the way forward but there is no "stop" at the idle point and I was wondering if there is supposed to be?

thanks,

Mech,

My comments were not directed to you but to jagman. My 1510D does not have a detent position for idle.

Sorry for the misunderstanding and thanks for the information. Also I looked back at some earlier posts and some Yanmar's apparently do have a fuel shutoff and a compression release.

There's no detent or fuel shutoff on my YM240 (YM2000) either - just push the throttle lever all the way to the end to kill it.
