I have a 4310, 5 yrs old. Recently the throttle began to creep down on me. I use the tractor year-round, no trouble last summer or in winter, but this spring it started happening. Will not maintain engine rpm, throttle lever actually moves. Any idea what might cause this?? JP.

Yeah, something is worn and or loose and needs tightening up.

See picture below. You need to tighten the bolt (#1) that puts pressure on the friction washers (#2).

kennyd, Thanks for the exploded view and advice. It's rainy here so I'll probably dig into it today. JP.

I have had this problem with my 4310 and my current 4410. I have to tighten that bolt about once a year. Maybe those friction disks disks are compressing depending on what they are made of. I have found if I go above my normal thottle range it doesn't creep down.

The best way I found to gain access is take the right side panel off below the steering column. First time I did it I went through the top by removing the steering wheel. Putting the tilt components back on was time consuming. It would be nice if there was easier access to tighten this up on a regular basis.

Thanks again for the help. It only took about an hour. I removed the parking brake knob, unscrewed the ignition switch, and took off the right side dashboard(?) panel and fuse block cover for easy access. I put a touch of lock-tite on the threads while I was at it. JP.

Glad to help. You can also get the parts views yourself at www.jdparts.com if you want;)

I had the same problrm on my 3520. I removed a small spring which was attached to the arm that comes out of the side of the engine. I don't know why the spring was on there but it works fine without it.
