I read about a small tool that motorcyclists use to lube their cables. It attaches to the end of
the cable and you spray oil inside a small port. This would be great for my old bcs and mower too. Anyone tried one of these?

I haven't used one of the commercially-available ones, but I have used my home-brewed version a few times. I have a combination oil sucker/vacuum pump that I made years ago using a small electric motor, an old GM a/c compressor, and an old fire extinguisher for the collection tank. If I have a sticky cable, I slide a snug piece of rubber hose over one end of it and insert the end of my vacuum pump's suction tube. Then I stick the opposite end of the sticky cable into a cup of penetrating oil and turn the pump on to pull the penetrating oil up through the cable housing.

Andrew, I have the cable lubricator like you described. It does a good job. Sometimes both ends of the cable have to be lubricated as the rust (the usual culprit) is usually at both ends of the cable.

Thats a slick idea, might have to try it with my mityvac vacuum pump.

I have a cable oiler i got from harbor freight, works pretty good. Tends to be messy and use a lot of whatever your spraying in there. Havent tried it on my grillo yet but i suspect the cable diameter might be a little big for it?
