I have respect for the Kioti brand based on bizillions of positive posts here.

However, based on thread titles it seems there are a disproportionate number of Kiotis with starting problems.

Korea is cold in the winter, so I am surprised to see frequent posts concerning starting difficulties.

Am I right/wrong?

Kioti had some issues with the key switches that are probably most of the start issues. Injection pump problems on the post 2005 models, a few with glow plug controller issues. My DK45 likes to eat batteries about every 2-3 years. My neighbor has a CK30 with about 1000 hours and was purchased about 2 months after mine and is on his third battery. I am on my 3rd or 4th battery, and they are both early 2005 models.

Almost all problems are quality issues with the Kioti sourced parts and not actually kioti manufactured parts.

Your right and wrong.

there are a lot of Kioti wont start threads. but it has nothing to do with cold weather.. Kioti's start wonderfully in the cold and the heat for that matter. I have never owned a tractor that starts as easily, and that includes my 2 Kubota's. My New Holland and My old Long. (not an easy starter in cold weather). The problems stem from electrical component failure in this order. 1: the "ignition" switch. This switch is on the column, and seems to get water in it easily, and it fails. I would recommend all owners shoot some fluid film in their switch whether it works well or not. 2:. Both the starter and fuel solenoid relays on the firewall often fail. They are an easy to procure standard relay you can get at NAPA, but they don't seem to be particularly robust. 3: Third in line is the glow plug relay. this is a 70 amp relay, and does not fail often, but does account for some failures. 4: Battery cable corrosion, often inside the insulation, and not readily visible. I believe this plagues all tractors. This is easily prevented by the liberal application of NO-OX-ID to all battery cables and ground connections upon taking delivery of the new tractor.. I GUARANTEE you will never have a corrosion problem on any electrical connection if you use this product made by Sanchem. 5: The DK series has a lot of Molex like connectors up under the floor pan, and occasionally get water in them and can cause corrosion.. USUALLY from people power washing their tractors.. DO NO POWER WASH TRACTORS. Or if you do just wash the bucket and loader and other metal areas that will not get water into the electrics. Tractors are "Drip Proof" NOT water proof. Think in terms of they are fine in the rain (except the ignition switch) but they are NOT fine to power wash the engine bay or under the floor pan or anywhere water will force itself into connectors.

So this is my analysis of no start problems in Kioti Tractors. Some of these problems plague all tractors, But some like the ignition switch and relays are Kioti specific.

It appears to be certain years that have the switch problem.
I have a 2001 model DK, and have never had an ignition switch issue.
My original battery lasted 11 years.
In the 12 years I've owned it I have needed to clean my ground cable/frame contact once. And I replaced the glow plug timer once.
Always starts right up, and my machine gets pressure washed top to bottom several times per year.

I don't want to come across as a know it all, but my position as a Army Maintenance Officer give me unique perspective. I have been part of the fielding of hundreds of equipment platforms, and all with their own issues. When there are problems my team is called. As a educated guess, I find 95% of the problems are operators or untrained mechanics fault. My favorite is wire cutting and splicing. Most people do this task wrong when adding lights, radios, accessories, etc. Most people cut the wires, twist them together, and apply black tape. This is what I call a temporary road side fix. The little blue wire splicers sold in auto parts stores are no better. These types of splice work well for a few days, but then corrosion sets in because they are not sealed or solid. The best way to make a permanent splice is to slide on shrink wrap, twist and solder the wires together, and then shrink the wrap. This is a permanent fix.

The biggest problem I see is people letting equipment set. Even if you are not using the equipment, it needs to be started and ran for 30+ mins every two weeks at a minimum. This action alone will save many batteries, time, and money. Don't be surprised when your equipment will not start on a cold day, when it has not been touched in a month.

Also, don't buy a battery just be cause it fits the space. Cranking amps, and Cold Cranking amps matter. Especially in cold weather. Diesel engines fire using high compression which takes a lot more juice to turn over. A weak battery causes problems in glow plug functionality also. Using cheap batteries cost more in the long run.

Again, I am not saying "there are not legitimate non-starting issues", but most are caused by operators/mechanics. I see starting issues from $1000 generators to $800,000 fighting machines. I am not looking for a fight, but if you breeze through the other forums, the non-start issues are evenly posted among all makes.

These are a few of the "Non-Start" issues from the first two pages of the other major brands' threads. Kioti has not cornered the market on "Non-Start" issues.
Kioti hasn't cornered the market on no starts.
But I have to agree with the OP. I do read about it all to often on the Kioti forum.
I don't know the reason.
I just know I've never had a problem with my DK.

I'm not sure if there are disproportionate number of starting problems with Kioti tractors vs other tractors. In all honesty I don't monitor other tractor sites since I don't own one. I have a brother who owns a John Deere tractor and when I run into an issue with my Kioti I call him to talk about it. Many times he'll tell me he had a similar problem with his JD and proceeds to tell me what he did to correct the problem. I think all tractors have starting issues from time to time, but Kioti owners maybe asking for assistance more than other brand owners. I've had my Kioti since 2006 and this year is the first time I have had any starting issues. It turned out to be a bad preheater controller. It's running fine now.

If a Kioti doesn't start there is something wrong with it; hard starting is not normal. I live in NC and it never gets super cold here but my 2006 DK45S always started immediately, except once. That problem turned out to be dirt in the electrical contacts of the key switch. I didn't replace the switch, I just disassembled it cleaned it, lubricated it, and reassembled.

I suspect more Kioti owners try to fix problems DIY compared to other brands, possibly as a result of a sparse dealer network, Kioti owners being frugal, and excellent advice available here. In other words, I suspect John Deere owners are more likely to just call the dealer when they have a problem.

I have a personal pet peeve with many of these no-start threads; the original poster often fails to specify: is the tractor is totally dead?, what does the instrument panel indicate?, does anything else (like flashers) work?, does if it fail to crank or crank slowly?, or does it crank normally but fail to start? From reading posts here, a lot of time would be saved if these basic conditions were addressed up front.

Man, you got that right, sometimes we go 4 or 5 post to determine that "can't get it cranking" means he has worn the battery down with cranking the engine but what he means is it wont start and run. "crankin dude" to him. But people that have never repaired anything and never applied scientific methodology...well,... we just have to expect some of this,.
