Thoughts on mounting a 2500b winch on BX?

From left field, a chain come-along.

Just a brief FYI on thse, I looked for sources for them and except for a china-madexknockoff on The Sportsmans Guide, they were amzingly expensive where you can find them at all. There are hardly any used ones at all, and no one other than the shaffer co seems to make any at all.

It's a shame too because they seem like such a great idea.

I need to hook the chain come-along to my crane scale and find out how much pull I can get with it.

Saw Harbor still has the $49 coupon on the 2500 lb winch.

Oh Yeah... on order and maybe delivered!?! Got my neighbor watching my doorstep. I am down under working (mostly) for three weeks. Gonna spend the next couple of days on the Great Barrier Reef and check a big one off my bucket list!!! :D

I have that very winch, but it is mounted to my JD650.

I agree with what others have said....depends on what you want it for. It will not pull your tractor out of a mud hole, but it will pull large vines out of trees (what I got it for). Before I would tie a strap around the vines and just pull forward or back depending on if I tied to the front of the tractor or back. Tie to the back and the vine would lift the rear of the tractor off the ground....tie to the front and it would lift the front.....this seemed much safer....still did not work real well as the tractor would still leave mother earth and come crashing down....not good. Now I use it to pull fallen trees out of the woods....works good for that.

Unbelievable... as a reef aquarist this was a dream come true!!! Pictures don't do it justice... just poking around with a GoPro while snorkeling. Got some great video too.

And since I am the OP for this thread I will take the prerogative to take it off course!

Off course it is then :) It was a long time ago but SWMBO and I spent a few days on Lady Elliot and Orpheus. The reef is amazing.

We'd go back in a heartbeat if the flight wasn't so brutal. Enjoy!

Two thoughts:

1) The battery on a BX is 3 or 4 times the size of an ATV battery - electric capacity concerns are a non-issue.

2) A compact tractor doesn't have a lot of free space. I can't think of where I would put one that's not going to be in the way. And what is the chance you will need to pull from that direction? Have you considered a receiver-hitch arrangement with a sockets at front and back? With a anderson connector to each. And then when it slips down the bank sideways take a look and plan your side mounts. :D Space being a premium, I'd think you have to use it all the time - to hard mount it.

My ATV has a winch hard-mounted on the front. It looks cool but I've used it maybe 5 times in 5 years. I have no idea what the capacity is, but it doesn't pull very hard in my opinion. It's nested in behind the bumper, and not in the way at all. I'm glad its there, but with the ATV I can be miles away from my come-alongs and truck. The tractor is never far away from that stuff.

Yeah trying to think of a quick attach type of mount that can be fitted front or rear. I definitely hear you on the fixed mount and how many times I will actually use it. Price made it pretty much a no brainer to buy because I know I will pull a few stumps or logs out inaccessible areas. I need to get home to see what the winch size is in person and start waving it around the tractor for mounting ideas.
