July 7
A driver called police upset that he was stuck behind a slow-moving tractor on Highway 47, and requested that police write citations to the tractor operators. Police declined, and also suggested the caller not use his phone while driving.

It is a problem with two lane highways and the much, much larger equipment on the roads. Especially in spring and fall. People have been moving farther into the country to escape high city prices for accomodation, with long rural commutes. This is problematic with HUGE machinery on the roadways. In the trucking industry, such movement would not even be allowed without permit and escort.

In the US, market roads were built by farmers for farmers. At times, motorists have built their own highways where farm equipment is not allowed. The interstate highway system comes to mind.

People move to the country to enjoy the rural life.
Farm machinery is part of that lifestyle.
Slowdown and enjoy it.
Or move back.

Exactly correct!

Too many californians in the Portland area... they don't like Cali so they move out and then try to make laws and complain to make Oregon like Cali, leave your big city junk in your own ruined area...

Highway 47 is somewhat windy, and there's a lot of wrecks from people doing stupid things and not paying attention...

Today I drove the Power Wagon down south into the Palouse. I met, on two separate occasions, Large tractors with multi ganged, winged disks. It's no problem - I just pulled over and waited until they went past.

However - in the recent past - while pulled over - I've had "road idiots" pull around me and zoom past the oncoming ag equipment. It would be most unfortunate if the inboard wing accidentally dropped just as the fool drove past. I guess that most don't realize that a big tractor will not respond like a sports car and dodge oncoming vehicles.

Two years ago I came up behind a DOH contractor who was repainting the highway stripes. Again - some idiot pulled around me and zoomed past the paint truck. Later, at a service station further south, his pickup had yellow spray paint on both sides. I couldn't help it, I had to laugh.

Now THAT is funny.

I'm with you guys.

I'm seeing way too much "urban sprawl" eroding farmland and the countryside. Eventually the sub-urbanites take over with their zoning and restricting this and that which had been part of farm life for generations.

When I read these comments I have to snicker to myself,
That's what I said when I got out of active duty in the Marines in 74 and came home.
So I moved to Idaho for several years, then down to West Texas before I ended up back here.
And I'm still saying the same damned thing   :drink:

I've been told so many times I'm #1 while driving a tractor with that "special" finger. I just laugh and wave. I've had my left blinker on, arm stuck out, double yellow line, in a curve and still get passed as I'm trying to turn in a road. People need to slow down or leave earlier.
