I am in the market for a grapple for my rk55. My question is, has anyone added a third function valve that did not come from rural king. I see valves for about $500 and rk痴 is $800. Thanks in advance for any advice.

I did not add the third function to my tractor. I had the Kubota dealer add a WR Long third function along with the Land Pride grapple. I've had this combo for five plus years and not a moments problems.

The third function was - $1200 - which included installation.

Could the price difference be that the RK unit is a turnkey kit (hoses & fittings etc.)and the other is only the valve?

That would be my guess also. Parts vs a 100% complete kit. :confused3:

RK55guy, when I question my local store about the third function kit I was told that the kit includes everything required for installation. He did say thet the installation instructions left a lot to be desired but that it wasn't hard to figure out. I thought that to be a fair price over one that just contains the valve and you have to have hoses custom made to ensure the length is correct.........Don

If you want to attempt a self-installation, I can take and post detailed pix of my TAC-installed unit. Just let me know...

PS - I didn't know how useful the 3rd function with a "lidded" unit (grapple, thumb, 4-in-1, etc.) could be until I had one. With my 20-year-old New Holland with rear remotes, I think I'm going to take the "poor man's" retrofit option and run long hoses to the front. Yeah, it requires taking my hand off the joystick, but holding onto stuff is better than letting it keep falling out...

I also used y rear remote to open and close my grapple , cost total about $120 for hoses quick connects and fittings. I gave serious thought to using a 3 function valve and i had access to a utube on the installation for my LS tractor but glad i went the poor boy route itworks good for me.

I have the RK option installed on my 55. Works great and I can’t see doing without it, especially for grapple work. I honestly didn’t know there was a poor mans option or I would’ve gone that route but I use my rear remotes for a top and tilt.

Since my wife is now using the tractor more than me, I’m glad we went with the third function. She can easily attach and hook up the grapple and unhook it for the loader.

If you have the funds have RK do the install.

I have the RK valve on my RK55. If you are even slightly mechanically inclined, I see no reason why you couldn't install yourself. I had to redo most of the wire routing on mine due to a poor install at the factory and it was not hard, even without instructions.
