Sorry for another one of these "third function" threads...

I bought a grapple for my Kioti CK35 and need to get a hydraulic connnection for it. I'm looking at possibly the W.R. Long system but don't have a clue where to start. I do not have a rear remote to connect to. Will this system work on my tractor? Anyone know where I could find step-by-step instructions to install this system? I'm pretty smart but a complete novice at this kind of thing.

Oops... Kioti not Kyoti :p

Dustin,

I have the WR Long 3rd function on my DK50se for my Grapple.

The dealer installed mine, and that is what I would recommend you do also.

It works great. My one complaint, and it may simply be my inexperience with tractor hydraulics, is that sometimes I can't get the grapple to close at the same time I am curling or lifting.

Happy tractoring!

Thanks Mossflower... My plan was to have it installed by the dealer but I'm having trouble getting it scheduled. I've had the grapple for almost a month now and have not been able to use it. The next closest dealer is 50 miles away and I don't have a trailer. So I thought I would explore the idea of doing it myself.

The dealer installed an electric diverter valve on my loader, took about half an hour. I was there when it was installed if i would of known i would have installed myself. I need both my rear remotes for the snow blower and thought to add an extendable snow plow this year, so i had the valve installed. I'll post pics of how the hoses are connected later.

Interesting location. Mine is underneath the Tractor, behind the 2 rear remotes and the hyd lines run to the FEL connections by the right step to make it easy to drop the FEL w/wo the grapple attached, and I also have QD where your 3rd function is to make it easy just to drop the grapple.

Very interesting location...

Thanks for sharing.

The first valve in a hyd series circuit will have priority over the other valves. So if the pump has 5 GPM, and the first valve is using 5 GPM, there is no fluid left for the rest of the circuit. If you only use 3 GPM for the lift, there is 2 GPM left for other functions.

So I need more experience feathering the joystick. That explains the lift & dump is at 45 degrtees and in effect is feathering.

I seem to be ham fisted...:confused3:
Thanks J_J!

To remove the FEL, all i have to do is remove the 4 QC hoses and disconnect the switch connector. I will install a push button on the joystick later to control the diverter valve, to busy building a cab for my tractor:thumbsup:

This is why most front hyd kits sold by tractor manufacture use the diverter system off the bucket circuit. You can have bucket or grapple function but not at same time so only 2 circuits are supplied.

It doesn't look like something I want to try on my own without any experience. To bad I didn't think of it when I bought the tractor I could have had it installed then.:(

I bought the Long 3rd function valve kit for use on my DK45 with their OBG2 grapple. Installation was straightforward and only took about 45 minutes. The installation instructions and literature they supply is tractor specific and when I had a question, I called them and they were able to answer it on the phone. I would say anyone with reasonable mechanical ability should be able to install it himself.

Just compare the individual parts prices that add up to a kit and compare to the factory kit, and using average mechanical skills, make a decision as whether or not you can do it.

The nice thing about the kit for your tractor is that someone has already done the work and selected the solenoid, fittings and hose length and wiring, and all you have to do is put it in place.

I would estimate about half if you do everything..

Finaly got it scheduled for next week! I'm having the WR Long system installed. Can't wait to try out my new grapple!

Did you give much thought to adding rear remotes? They give you more flexibility for future attachments, and work fine for a grapple.

I did... I guess my thinking was that I will be doing a lot of grapple work, (probably much more than a bucket) so I didn't want to have to reach for a separate control to close the grapple. I like the idea of having it on my "stick."

a year or two ago WVPOLECAT wrote a very good how to do here tbn when he did it ... search for it . At first , adding a 3rd function may seem complicated .. but it really is not that hard to do . surpus center ,baily hyd & baum hyd. are a few good reference sites to learn from . ... 12vdc solnoid valve & subplate, an electric switch or two,and some hyd hoses & fittings & time... easy

Mine is on top of the FEL cross-beam like KARL's above, but I would
consider putting it on the bottom side of the cross-beam for somewhat
less exposure to the errant log....

For me, minimizing the length of hoses was paramount.

On my Kioti i simply made an removable extension rod from the rear remote control that goes up right next to the loader control. I use it for my plow...and love it. Especially as i have the plow set for both depth and rotation, and i cant accidentally move the plow position as i fan it right or left.

I'm still pondering the possibility of getting a 3rd valve control installed, but it might not function when i mount my blower control to the joystick. still playing with the idea.

That's pretty slick, guess it gives you better control over those high-speed Kioti hydraulics too. I just use mine as they came, but I like the idea of that.
