Has anyone added a wing plow for pushing back snow banks on a BX25?
I am thinking of using the right side Loader mount as the front attach point, the 2" receiver as the rear pivot point, and using te 3pt arm as the lift device.

Will this work?

Has anyone done this on a BX25? I see a green one here

I currently have a Meyer 6' 6" front plow, with the push bar bolted to the pivot points for the bucket.

I plow a 3000' road, and after last winter, I need to get the snow banks pushed up and out of the way.

First off WHY are you thinking about snow? Winter will surely come soon enough without thinking about it? Just kiddinng of course, giving you a little good natured ribbing.

As for fashioning a wing plow as you described, I would not recommend it. I would not want to stress the loader mounts in an unequal fashion. Snow can get pretty heavy and especially with a smaller tractor like your BX, that could put a lot of stress on the loader mounts. Loaders are really meant for loading and not digging on our tractors and there are lots of folks out there who have tried to use the loader for more aggressive stuff than it was intended for and have ended up doing damage to the loader subframe or worse yet to the tractor's engine block, etc. Since these aren't big agricultural tractors or even construction TLB's they just don't have the same frame toughness that the bigger rigs do. If you have to push snow far back, then maybe you should consider a front mount snowblower?

Takes a lot of momentum, power, and WEIGHT to move an old bank of snow. I've seen big weighted down plow trucks bounce off them like they were toys..especially with a blade sticking out the side. Make sure you are wearing your seat belt... :)

I would be pushing it back as I go. I would not be trying to move the set banks, without breaking them with the bucket first.

Not saying Bx won't do it but the stress I would think twice, more so heavy wet snow, instead plowing storm once may have plow during snow storm..."3000' " I would check out blower.

I disagree with ALL the posters here. you need to think BX, not your normal variety of tractors. His idea has merit. the loader mount, not the FEL part once its off is very strong. only thing is he would be relying on one mount, not two. The other issue is weight of wing plow. It will most likely tip the BX in direction of plow without counterweight.
I think smokey needs to use a lightweight backblade in the belly area and use same idea for mounting is thinking of using. This way the weight is closer to COG.

I gotta tell you though- a meyers plow mounted on BX is all it can handle due to weight. I should know since I did the same as you did with old truck plow on my BX. It does job, I just do an extra pass to push banks over before it freezes over with FEL raised a foot or so.

The plow I am looking at is a 48" plow off a wheelhorse. Weights about 50 lbs.

that just might work...

wouldn't a snow blower be easier, and maybe cheaper in the long run?

mind you I like the whole idea, just trying to be practical.

I dont think there is any way you could get enough weight on the front end of the tractor for the wing plow to not just push the front of the tractor to the side. The front of these tractors do not have a great deal of traction. I dont think you would have much sucess with anything other than very small storms. Your front end will constantly going in the opposite direction of the wing whether you want it to or not. This is just from my experience with a smaller plow on a bigger tractor than your BX. With just the plow angled in a lot of conditions there is trouble steering. HOwever, Ive been wrong before. :)

Your right. And this is why road graders have the wing plow near the rear axles where all the weight is. If the plow is positioned closer to the rear axle with plenty of ballast, I think the wing plow will work. I'm not saying your going to drop your wing and push back 4 foot berms of snow but you should easily be able to shelf the snow back just like the big plows taking a little at a time. I've often thought about building one myself but I just don't have the need yet. My plans were to take a plastic 55 gallon drum and cut it up to make a wing plow. The plastic should save on weight and with a little bracing should make a nice slick light weight plow. The loader bracket and receiver or 3 point hitch should be a good strong attachment point. Be sure to post some pictures if you do build it. I would like to see what you come up with and also your method of lifting it.

Yes, that is the concept. That is the green one I mentioned earlier.

I use the backhoe as weight for the winter., as I also have 2 drainage pipes that I need to clear of debrie also.

I am aslo thinking of taking the right stablizer or pad off in the winter, use the pivot point for the rear plow mount, and use the cylinder for the rear up / down positioning of the wing.

Nice idea...I think the weight of your BX25 will be the limiting factor. Do you have steering brakes?

no roy, bx's doesnt have have brake steering. just diff locks.

I don't know why alot of guys think it won't work with wing on BX. The weight is definately going to be a factor.a lightweight steeply angled wing close to rear tires could work. I suspect he is going have to have multiple point on arm for adjustments to plow with angles of how far he can push snow back. keep the wing plow an inch or more off the ground will prevent any catches and slinging the BX around and give it more traction with most of weight on rear tires. Another thing I learned with my front plow is when plow is not scraping every fraction of inch of snow from ground, you can have more momentum and more pushing power.

Leaving the backhoe on for ballast and maybe swinging it a bit to the left to offset the weight of the wing should help a lot. Using the right stabilizer pivot as a rear wing mount and the stabilizer cylinder to raise and lower the wing sounds like a good idea to me, if the geometry works.

I can tell you from experience, that your bx won't have enough weight. See pix.

I now have a BX2660 and I won't waste my time to build another one. It is great for a wide open lot, with 3" or less, but that was it. Of course I was pushing a total width of 10' with a JD 400.:D

I'd guess Poorly.

The 25 doesn't weigh enough. Even with a front plow I get pushed around quite a bit. I would expect the wing plow would turn you sideways.

If you've got to keep the banks back, then it sounds like you're a candidate for a snow blower more than a plow.

Agreed. That is exactly what happens when you get too much side load on a wing.
The blower will put it where you want it. Get one big enough, you can put it in the next county.
