Again, give me torque. Hp sells cars and trucks to the flock.

When can we get together and do a chest bump with our "puffed out chests"?

Not only torque, gearing. Torque is nearly useless when the truck is not geared properly.

Very true. Don't forget about wheel sizes also.

Just look at a 45HP tractor and what they can do versus a 300 HP truck.

I dunno, but it looks like at 2000 rpms, the hemi is making around 350 ft-lbs and the eco boost is making 375 ft-lbs. Not really a huge difference, and it sure doesn't make the hemi a high strung engine. If anything the charts seem to back up Dmaces claim that there isn't that much difference between the two. If you notice, the scale of the torque curve is strung out on the eco boost and more compact on the hemis curve, which makes the hemis curve look more peaky. Like you say, plot them at the same scale, and I think they would look very similar. I would agree though, the eco boost isn't by any means a high strung engine and it makes plenty of torque down low.

UPDATE:

Seems like we have wondered a little off topic...

After checking the owner's manual, it says to not take MPG readings until after a few thousand miles. (3k, IIRC). We only have about 900 miles on it so far, so we will check again later.

Now, we have a real problem here: :(

We have no idea how this happened. Today we went to a paintless dent removal shop, and they said we need to go to a body shop. Should we take it to the dealer or find an independent body shop? Any advice would be welcome.

Wandered off topic, NOOOOOO.

Yeah, thats beyond what a paintless guy can do. They will have to fix the dent, paint the area, then clear the entire quarter panel. I'd be shocked if the damage is much under a $1000. I'd take it to whatever body shop is trusted in your area.

Yikes, what a shame. I hated it when I found a fine scratch on a fender that I must have done when handwashing but can easily be buffed out.

There goes your gas mileage now..... :D

Good luck!

+1
I will not let anyone wash mine except for myself. Rest assured, it will be good as new once again.

My beef with Dmace isn't that the hemi is a bad engine. It is just his comments that he has made in this thread that are incorrect. The two biggest ones are "ecoboost can't make low end power" and "horsepower is measured and torque is a calculated number based solely on rpms". Both of these statements are completely wrong and he defends them. I won't even get into the lawn mower engine he could build that produces big torque but failed doing this with race car engines.

I had to beat on the hemi a little just because he thinks it I a better truck engine over the cummins option because he is a fan of HP over torque.

Again, I think the hemi is also a great engine but far from simple as dmace leads everyone to believe. There is just as much complex technology in the hemi as there is in the ecoboost, but to me that is all good. Simple won't get the job done in today's world.
