If he was banned, it would say so under his name when you look at his past posts.

Actually, it is blank under the banned members names at this site where the user level title would normally appear.

I know of two members who are banned (one very understandably, the other one not so.) who have nothing where "Super Member" (or whatever level) would appear.

True, true, but aside from that, he was a crack up.
I loved it when he would rant about eating stuff he shot. He would talk about shooting anything and then boiling it or something and eating it no matter how disgusting it turned out. And he always brought up how many hours he had on that Jinma tractor of his,,,,,like 560 or last I heard with a peep of trouble.

Yu know, some of them fussy welders, they use tarps and wind screens and such like things that are not hard to come by when welding outside. Sponge cake is sponge cake.

That's great if you have windscreens and tarps, and have the time to use them. There are plenty of times when you have -3 minutes to get that 'whatever' welded, and get that machine doing what it had been doing before the rain gets 'heavier'.. etc. Or when the clouds are rolling in.. but the last few windrows of hay are still on the ground. Huge difference in a quick weld job to finish work, and an x-ray quality weld and full prep/repair job that would make a machinist smile and offer you his daughter's hand in marriage.

There's a time and place for everything... if all situations were 'perfect'.. airplanes wouldn't have parachutes.. and ocean liners wouldn't have life rafts.. but life ain't perfect.. so sometimes you take the 'emergency' route to get something done!

Ah nevermind.. I'm done with this discussion. It's bad enough to remember trying to have a discussion with that guy.. vs having discussions about him.. etc..

I give up.. there is never any reason to make anything but a 100% perfect x-ray quality weld.. no matter what, no exceptions.. not money, or loss of crops, time or life... only good welds...

The guy seemed to love a good debate/conversation. And if you bow out of the conversation--he wins.

Most of the time it's worth it to loose.. just to get away... Kinda like cyote ugly.. you know when you wake up the next morning after meting some uh.. lady, and she is so ugly that you chew your arm of that she is laying on so that you don't wake her while trying to get out of there... .. well.. it's like that.. it's a terrible sacrifice.. but after having had a few conversations with thingy.. it's worth it.

I know where you're coming from...I just miss his semantics. Once he targeted you, he'd break it off in your *** very quickly and wouldn't stop...he'd follow you around the different forums attacking every comment and post.

His way of putting things, besides the comma's,,,,,,really cracked me up. There were times when I got bored that I would do a search for Thingy's posts. His logic, no matter how twisted sometimes, always brought a lot of laughs my way.

I wouldn't be surprised if he hasn't created a new TBN screenname, left out the comma's/harsh debating and is sitting back getting the last laugh.

Hmmm. Maybe it just shows up to me since I'm a moderator. I'll ask the owners.

Anyhow, it does not show up to me when I look at Thingy, and his name doesn't appear in the list of banned folks. So I'm 99.9% sure he was not banned.

Finally, the moderators aren't supposed to discuss banned folks, the reasons, etc... as that is private business between the banned and the banner, that being the owners of the site. Since Thingy wasn't banned, we can talk about him all we want!

Personally, I found him to be a lot of fun to talk to, but late at night, with tired eyes, sometimes I had to just skip some of his posts because the commas strained my brain. Too bad, because he is a sharp cookie.

I can tell you from experience , that calling a mod "Barney Fife" (along with all the context that led up to it) will get you at least a 3 day vacation from TBN...haha. I laugh about it now , but it wasn't too funny at the time

I've never known of an arguement with just one single "hard head" involved. It takes two to tango, so they say. Regardless of right or wrong, Opinion or fact, going toe to toe with someone you consider a "moron", "fool", Idiot", ect, puts you squarely at YOUR percieved level of THEIR inteligence.

THINGY is sort of a lightening rod. He's opinionated and stubborn, but for the most part, fundamentally correct in his information. He seems to live in his own world at times. His "people skills" might be subject to review, granted. The thing is, if a person can overlook what faults he percieves in a person like Thingy, they can learn quite a bit, so long as the student hasn't already made up his mind they don't have anything left to learn. People like Thingy have an ability to live "rent free" in other peoples heads. His "ways" irritate some people so much they overlook what he has to share while they're pre-occupied with disagreeing with his manners and attitude.

Listen to what he (or anyone like him) has to say. Take heed to what he says, then adjust that information to your own individual situation. Walk away and don't let him draw you into a battle of wits. NO ONE wins those sort of debates. One or the other, if not BOTH, end up damaging their credability and neither gain anything.
