Things that go bump in the night

Kinda freaks me out a bit when we travel to FLA and see bikers passing us at 70, 75, 80, etc. Wearing shorts, T shirt, flip flops, and maybe a bandanna on their head. Course, I guess at the speed if they wreck it really does not matter what they are wearing.

There is/was a guy on the road behind use who would ride his bike at high speed. I figure he is/was organ donor wanna be with all of the deer around here. Either he or another guy used to do the same on the road in front of us. I have heard him do this at dawn and dusk which is a bad time for the deer. The wifey got her eight point buck with her car during the broad day light so no time is really safe. I have not head the bike in a while so maybe he sold it. :)

Later,
Dan

You are right about there not being a safe time, but dawn and dusk are the worst times for visibility IMO. I've come very close to hitting a deer once before, but it was the middle of the afternoon so I could see it coming up the side of the road. I was able to slow enough to avoid it, but when it passed in front of me it was so close I could smell it. I could have stuck my leg out and kicked it as I passed. It was a sobering experience.

I dont ride much I did riad a home built trike a little. Too many idiots in the phone anymore. I have a friend that was on the reciving end of a deer strike one time. He was on a little narrow road thats paved here. He was going around a corner and grazed a deer. When he recovered he realized that he was headed towards a stormhouse in the ditch bank.

I've done it before and gotten away with it, but we really should always wear boots and britches when riding. No boat shoes, sandals(gasp), sneakers, or anything without ankle protection. I saw a guy the other day in sandals and shorts on a Heritage...on the highway...man that's just asking for trouble:laughing:

Yeah you got that right, I still remember the poor biker in front of me on I-24 east bound - just crossed Mt. Eagle and headed downhill. He hit a "gator" or something and laid down right in front of me, I successfully swerved left to avoid him, it's been 20 years and I STILL see him - hate to follow bikers on the road ANYWHERE because of it ESPECIALLY if they're not dressed for riding.

She got a scare I wouldn't want either did it crash her?

She said she was running out of asphalt and heading for the shoulder real quick before her tires got grip back.

She apparently was a skilled rider glad to know she didn't fall thanks for the update that would be a hairy ride.

I didn't see this the other morning when I went to the scene of the almost accident looking for the coons body. (Which wasn't anywhere to be found and I am glad so maybe he is ok.)

But last nite (before dark :) ) I rode that route and found my skid mark looked like a 30' straight skid with a Z at the end about the width of a coon where I leaned/swerved to miss the critter just barely missing him.

I learned my lesson no doubt but I came to the conclusion that the park lite reflection on my windshield down the left side where the coon appeared had something to do with me not seeing him?

At least I think so so now I will be more aware of a previously unknown blind spot. Makes think about finding blinders for the park lites.
