Bird; I guess the "habit" of reaching for my shirt pocket said:
I wouldn't call the "reaching for my shirt pocket" an addiction, you got no delivery of the drug your body craved by reaching for your shirt pocket. I smoked too for too long, and one of the things that bothered me, was what to do with my hands as I sat in the break room at work. :)

The better than you attitude of toyota Prius drivers. They always get extra black smoke from my cummins for as long as I can stay in front of them!!

Yep, that's the claim alright; so I'm not qualified to dispute the experts. I smoked for over 40 years, was smoking more than 2 packs a day, smoked the last one in a pack the night of July 10, 2006, and just never opened another pack. I guess the "habit" of reaching for my shirt pocket, only to find nothing there for a couple of weeks could be considered an addiction, but I sure never had any physical reaction or withdrawal symptoms or problems.

A family member eventually stopped smoking after years and years of trying. The problem they had was the habit/ritual of smoking. They would smoke when there was nothing else to do, smoking was something to fiddle with, and when they stopped smoking, they had to find something else to do, which was eating. They would stop smoking, start eating to have something to do, and they would gain weight. To loose weight, they would start smoking again. Danged if you do, and danged, if you don't.

They stopped smoking years ago but gained too much weight that they cannot loose. I guess at their age it really does not matter. They quit smoking but they could not stop the habit. I guess they should have taken up knitting. :confused3::D:D:D

Dan, I had the same problem; used to smoke when I wasn't doing anything else and now want to snack when I'm not doing anything else. And my Dad started smoking when he was about 22. He was smoking a carton a week when he quit smoking when he was 40. He was a tall, wiry, strong fellow, weighed about 170 pounds. In about a year, he was up to 210 pounds and started smoking again; continued smoking the rest of his life.

I don't expect to ever go back to smoking though, since I didn't quit for health reasons. I quit because it's too expensive and gets the house, car, and pickup dirty.

Agreed.

And congrats! Been free for 3 years now

Just went to pick up a part for my pickup from a small town.
The guy gave really bad directions, but I planned to call him on the cell when I got close (that is why I have a cell phone afterall).

I got lots of "bars"....
And the message EMERGENCY CALLS ONLY.

I've had that happen to me before, and I'm just about ready to try a different cell company.

How do you read our minds??????? Do you work for the Government?
Of course we're better. Strange how you can pick-up the attitude just because we laugh when we pass you while you're filling up. :D

Enjoy my fossil fuel burning global warming smoke you lemming. I make lots of money and could care less about mpg. When you crash that sardine can, I hope that it's not into a full size truck that is gonna squish you till your innards are in the outside. But then again.........

I agree 100%. Nothing pi*ses me off more than a smoker throwing their filter cigarette butts down in my yard, etc. I make it a practice when I see someone do that is to pick it up and hand it back to them. Or if they're sitting in their car, I just toss it into their back seat! Filters don't deteriorate like the old time cigarettes did. They'll be lying there for years.

Want to know why it chaps me so much? 'cause I smoke. And I don't do that in their yard nor in my own. Mine gets field stripped and the filters go in my pocket until I get to a trash can. If it's not too much trouble for me - then they can do the same.

By the same standards - I don't smoke in their house if they don't smoke in their house. Simple courtesy IMHO.

Thanks, If all the smokers were this thoughtful us non smokers would be way more tolerant.

How about people that are so proud when they screw with the pumps on there diesel trucks thinking that smoke equals Horsepower.
Banks diesels are the fastest on the planet and they burn the fuel not blow it out the pipe unburned. do a youtube search.

Smoke does not bother me but your post is an excellent come back! I surely can't top it, so I (and the other million) will just have to be content to be a your continuing annoyance. :D

Goodness; do we need to return to the "hand pump" filling the glass tank. The exercise may help relieve some of those tensions many folks seem to develop at the pump.:D

All depends on how much fuel you put in... Smoke means that you are putting in too much fuel and wasting $$$$. You can get too much fuel with a Banks system just like you can with anyone else's.

Yes we know, but for some it is therapeutic. (see above posts) If they didn't spend it on fuel they would spend it on treatment.

My truck barely smokes now when I put my foot into the pedal because of the ULSD. With LSD, the truck would belch black smoke, now it is just a merest whiff. I thought only white smoke was unburnt fuel? Not sure either annoys me though.:laughing::laughing:

Diesel engines can produce black soot (or more specifically diesel particulate matter) from their exhaust. The black smoke consists of carbon compounds that were not combusted, because of local low temperatures where the fuel is not fully atomized. These local low temperatures occur at the cylinder walls, and at the outside of large droplets of fuel. At these areas where it is relatively cold, the mixture is rich (contrary to the overall mixture which is lean). The rich mixture has less air to burn and some of the fuel turns into a carbon deposit. The full load limit of a diesel engine in normal service is defined by the "black smoke limit", beyond which point the fuel cannot be completely combusted. As the "black smoke limit" is still considerably lean of stoichiometric, it is possible to obtain more power by exceeding it, but the resultant inefficient combustion means that the extra power comes at the price of reduced combustion efficiency, high fuel consumption and dense clouds of smoke.

I've had this happen to me a couple of times, usually in Government Offices.

CASH NOT ACCEPTED.

In this case, Visa was not accepted either.
And I typically don't carry check blanks with me.
And, of course, I was 100 miles from home
