The only use for the camera is the hope that you can recognize the thieving scumbags,
then shoot, shovel, shutup.

Oh and if I where fortunate enough to be confronted by them I am absolutely positive that they where intent on harming me, end of discussion.

Better get them out of the vehicle first and make sure they are facing you.

Several wireless driveway alert units beats a camera IF you're at home to hear them. Cheaper than the deductible on insurance.

You can't come up my driveway without setting off 2 or more of them....and the way my property lays, that is the only vehicle approach....can't drive across a field or such.

Going through the border, I make sure the bed of the truck is open, the rear window open, sunglasses (G3 Aviator) off, music off, say, yes sir, no sir (mamm) look them straight in the eye and LIE! lol

I went to Mexico to buy 100 Mexican blankets for a Mexican theme party. I had a window van so you can clearly see inside the van. They asked what I had I told them, then showed them the blankets. They pulled me over confiscated my van and told me I needed an IMPORT stamp. Ok, I walked back over the border got an import stamp then they said SORRY you goy a round import stamp we need to see the SQUARE import stamp. At thi spoint I exploded at the border agents and the head agaent in charge. I said TELL ME EXACTLY WHAT I NEED and I will get that.

By this time it was night and Mexico government offices were closed. Started looking for a motel. Worst flea bag hotel I have ever been in.

Next day I got the square stamp and then the agents charged me $800.00. Whne I asked WHY they said " because we can" I got my van and blankets released and that was the last time I ever went back to Mexico and that was 35 years ago.

As a result of asset forfeiture laws, you no longer have to go to Mexico to get the same treatment....it could happen on any street in the good ole USA...."because they can"......

Have you ever thought seriously about what you would do if you did catch someone out there stealing your stuff? Say you drove up just as two guys were getting in their truck to drive away with a bed load of your stuff? What is your plan? What would you do? Seriousl. ..

I know what I'd do.

I'd post about it on the internet and just let people tell me what I should have done.

It's the best advice one can get these days. ;)

Camera surveillance system should be just one piece of your security measures. Proper lighting, hardened entry points, audible alarms, immediate text/pic notification are others.

Well, yeah, that ... :)

Why do you think I asked? :D

Seriously a lot of people talk about stuff like 'SSS' but I'd just like to know what kind of actual plan someone might have if they suddenly confronted an unexpected thief in the act on their property. Seriously.

I'd also like to hear from those who actually have - truthfully.

Ah, but the woman can wear the Kabibe, or whatever the #$#$ it's called. COULD be a man, no? That's kind of predudice, assuming it's a man that would rob a bank! lol

It's called a Burka, not that hard to google.

Quite possibly Mr. Watson.

>>>>Gregory (Scotland Yard detective): "Is there any other point to which you would wish to draw my attention?"
Holmes: "To the curious incident of the dog in the night-time."
Gregory: "The dog did nothing in the night-time."
Holmes: "That was the curious incident."<<<<<

The "curious incident of the dog in the night-time" is easily explained: the dog made no noise, because no stranger was there. As Holmes explains: "I had grasped the significance of the silence of the dog, for one true inference invariably suggests others.... Obviously the midnight visitor was someone whom the dog knew well."

My father's tackle box was strictly off limits to us boys. Sometimes we could look if he was there, but never touch. He had tackle given to him ba friends and family, and several lures he had made himself over the years. I got the tackle box when Dad passed, and would sometimes take it when fishing places we had fished together. On one of those trips my fishing gear was all stolen out of the garage, including Dad's tackle box.

Brother-in-law was a local police officer. Told me they caught the people that did it, and that they had broken the poles and dumped the tackle box contents over the bridge before tossing the now-empty box in after it. He then said that I probably knew them, and took a breath to tell me who it was. I stopped him. Part of me wanted to know, real bad, but the rest of me didn't trust myself with that info.

Yep. Valid point for sure. As some one stated earlier it was probably someone who had been to the victims place and knew his habits who was the thief.

OK....had an incident here some years back.

Work van was left parked in driveway (outside gate, but off the county rd) of property I owned next door. I noticed it early one morning when I took the trash cart down for pickup later that day. Thought someone had entered the property and was prowling around. Went back to the house, got pistol in chest rig, AR-15 on the handle bar holder of 4wheeler and rode over to that property. Figured they were around the barn (about 100 yds up the drive), but couldn't see any sign of anyone, dew was heavy on grass undisturbed.

Went back down to the gate (I'm on the inside with 4wheeler), walk around gate, looked at the van...thinking maybe they simply had car trouble and managed to roll it into the drive to get it out of the road. Clearly a work van....papers all over the dash, but doors locked. I could see it was "Acme Electric" and a phone number from one of the papers inside the windshield, so I called the number using cell. Asked if they knew why their van was in my driveway. Van was stolen last night, along with lot of tools. Told them where it currently was, they said cops would be out.

So....I backed the 4wheel up the drive a little and into some brush to just sit and watch. Soon, a car came up the road, let one guy out, the other 3 in the car turned around and went back out. I rolled the 4wheeler down to the gate, and asked the guy who he was. "John Smith....I work for Acme".....amazing....guy had managed to make a 20 minute trip from town in 5 minutes ! I said hold on, let me call Acme, I just talked to them. I hit redial...no they didn't sent anyone out and don't know a "John Smith"

At that point, the guy bends over and starts fake hyperventilating......backing up toward the road....he then turns and starts running down the road, hollering "I'm gonna report you to the law for threatening me with all those guns" over his shoulder as he runs like mad ! Note I never pulled the pistol out of the holster, not took the AR off the gun rack, nor said a single threat to the guy....I was merely trying to confirm his identity and that he was an employee....don't even know where it might have gone from there. I sure as heck wasn't going to shoot him because he stole from Acme...did not have a dog in that fight.

SO, I get out the cell phone again, call my neighbor down the road this guy will have to run past, and tell him we have a thief running loose....see if you can stop him. I drive my 4wheeler back over to my primary property and back out my gate (I was on the inside of the other property and van was blocking that gate), so by the time I get down the road to the neighbors, he is standing there in his underwear :D holding his .30-30 said "he ran on down the road while I was jumping over the porch rail hollering at him". Bill got some pants on, jumped on his 4wheeler and we tear off down the road after the guy.

We figured we'd catch the guy, as our road is only about 1/2 mile on down to the main road, but we never saw him. Figured he must have gotten off the road and was hiding behind some other neighbor's house/barn..so we cruised back up the road looking for him. About that time, car with all 4 yahoo's tears out from behind one the neighbor's place, rams my 4wheeler knocking me/it to the side of the road and they race out of there......we never see them again. My neighbor Bill recognized the driver....known thief.

Cop shows up hour later....we tell what happened, and who neighbor thinks it is. Cops calls me a few days later, says they caught them. They had been trying to sell the neighbor whose place they were at some electrical tools (he is an electrician) when the guy I confronted came running in and screams "THEY GONNA KILL US"....and they left in a panic...ahahhaaaaaaa
