I want in on this grapple duel. I'm really having way to much fun in this CTL. It beats the heck out of a tractor for loader work. My grapple isn't even a Wicked grapple but it's plenty wicked.

Try this on for size. I have 72" dual lid EA grapple. It does all I want and more. I'm in need of a 60" dual lid, as I've discovered the following......When on a job in need of grapple and bucket, the grapple would fit inside bucket for transporting tractor to job site. My bucket is 72" and a 60" grapple would fit inside bucket. That's my story and I'm sticking to it. Everyone have a nice day.

Poor excuse. Your grapple doesn't care how long your bucket is. Grab the bucket with the grapple and load for transport. Chain the whole mess together and off you go.

OK, I'm in the peewee division here:

(I'm thinking we're gonna need different categories for brush, logs, trees, rocks etc.)

And, I concede widest jaw opening to Xfaxman but I think I have a chance at second place with 42-43".

I could care less how EA shows off their equipment. It's theirs to show case any way they want. Maybe you didn't notice EA is clear that they test their equipment to extremes to find design/material limits. Hooray for them!

What I am missing is why your stressing the same point over and over again to the same person who has clearly stated they are not plowing with a FEL.

There are more equipment use video's that EA's. They are just one data point. All of us here posting differing needs and uses adds data points. One person posting over and over again the same data point doesn't add data points.

"Hold my beer" examples count towards how not to do something. If a person can't see that they have bigger problems than worrying about grapple size.

Isn't the consensus here to buy one size tractor bigger than you think you need? How does that thought process suddenly fail when it comes to grapples? If you followed that consensus isn't your tractor big enough to run a full size grapple and still be well under lift capacity? What if you can figure out how to use that one size up tractor and a full size grapple to some new advantage? Maybe someone has?

The other side of that is if you running your lift capacity so close that a few pounds make or breaks any particular lift then just make two trips. Its no big deal to an experienced operator.

There is no single vs dual lid issue. Get the one that works for you and your uses. You seem happy with your skinny single lid, great, enjoy! Don't sweat my wide dual lid, you have no idea what uses I have in mind.

I see where you said "most" on the disparaging "American bigger is better scam" comment. That's twice that you've ran that by me. Is there some particular reason? Can you somehow deduce a persons nationality based on grapple choice? Can you also deduce eye color or how they comb their hair from that same grapple choice? I ask half joking but half serious. You could get into serious trouble making comments like that in a work place, even if it's not directed at an individual.

We should probably stick with the grapple usage/size discussion.

Tell you what, when my full size twin lid gets here, bring your skinny single lid down and lets have a Wicked Root Grapple Battle Royale! EA will love us and we will sell millions of grapples for EA! (You know I'm just havin fun here, right?)

A few points:

1) EA can advertise any way they want. However, this is a discussion forum so commentary is always appropriate. EA doesn't encourage improper use generally and is always quite clear in their videos when they are attempting to abuse or exceed recommended limits. No bones to pick there. As noted, I do think they should be more careful about bragging that their narrow tine grapple can be more efficient as a root rake as that isn't what CUT loaders are designed to do.

2) If I am guilty of stressing the same points over and over again then I guess you wide dual lid folks are just as guilty.

3) There is a dual vs single lid issue in the sense that anyone trying to choose the most appropriate grapple for their budget wouldn't want to waste money on unnecessary features or size. PLEASE FIND ME A TBN SINGLE LID GRAPPLE OWNER who "traded up" to dual because single just didn't work well enough.

4) Same request regarding narrow grapple owners who were dissatisfied and traded up to a 72". (There are a number of folks who have added a narrower grapple to their collection after first buying a wide one).


5) Consensus on tractor size is based on common scenario where someone buys a small CUT and then trades up. Where is the evidence that folks who buy small grapples trade up?????

I actually would. Too bad we live a little too far apart. In the woods I'm pretty sure I would win. In the middle of a field I have way less of an advantage. I don't think you could run with the speed of my dirt moving either.

Been doing that. It's tolerable on the equipment trailer. When I use the dump trailer, I'm a little leery and would rather have the grapple sitting squarely inside the bucket. Have a nice day Francis.
