The WICKED Root & Debris GRAPPLE!!!!!!!

I found a new way (to me anyways) to use my Wicked Twin. Instead of getting off and changing bucket/grapple/bucket/grapple ect doing a back fill the other day I just grabbed the bucket in the grapple and gave it a try. (insert epiphany here) It was a cold, blowing day so I didn't mind staying in the cab as much as possible.

Turns out I can scoop/haul/blade loose material really well by just grabbing the bucket in the grapple and using it almost like it was attached normally. I say almost because the bucket does move around some in the grapple. There is also an advantage in back dragging with this set up. The tines in the floor of the grapple hold quite a bit of loose dirt similar to a mini land leveler. If there is a little loose dirt it does a faster/cleaner final grade. WIN-WIN!!!

In this instance I was having to back fill and level a bit then drop the bucket to pickup roots/limbs that were coming to the surface and getting in the way of a good final grade. Just grabbing the bucket made the job go faster and easier on me. Smarter not harder!

All these uses for the Wicked Twin makes me wonder what else it can do!

I know TBN loves the wicked grapple, but really a tractor implement that gets stores on carpet with a nice oil soak blanket on top.... really?

I store the tractor/implements (and a few other pieces of farm equipment) in a 60' X 40' X 15' steel-trussed pole barn... Both sides have hanging/drive-through sun-shades (also helps to keep out leaves/birds/dust/etc. and you can't see through it from any distance) and the ends are open (except the gables are closed)... I did not want to put in a solid concrete floor yet I wanted to do something that would give me a cost-effective/efficient surface for ease of maintenance and working on equipment... I used several inches of 70% sand/30% clay-mix as a compacted base (under the pole barn and out/past the drip-line) and then laid 2 layers of USED commercial carpet... I have a good friend who is in the flooring business and I can get all the used/removed (and some new 'end-of-roll') carpet sections I want FREE... NOTE: When removing the old carpet most flooring companies cut it into manageable/lighter-weight sections/strips, which are still usable but try to get the largest pieces possible... Beware they will be VERY HEAVY... Old/used commercial carpet makes a GREAT surface to store equipment and to work on and is easy to keep relatively clean with a good/strong blower and cost next-to-nothing... I purposely included such pics to share my idea... If it helps/works for YOU, then good-on-ya lad...

As far as the exposed cylinder rods go, of course if I could store them such that they weren't exposed I would... However, as I mentioned and shown in the pic, the configuration of some 'stored' hydraulic equipment is such that some of the cylinder-rods may remain partly/fully exposed... So I WRAP them in oily rags which protects them from rust AND physical damage...

VERY slick... I notice the fully enclosed cab, the fact that you say it was cold/blowing yet the ground is nowhere near frozen, I assume you have the heater/stereo on, you are wearing your favorite wooly-tights, prolly sipping latte/eating donuts, don't want to get out of the cab because you still have your bedroom slippers on, and you are doing a little 'critical' landscaping avoiding the Mrs./honey-doo stuff... Got to hand it to you Lad, YOU got it figured out... NOTE: This friendly ribbing is coming from someone who is currently in Central Florida where at 2130 hrs. it is still 74* ;+)... Just a little respectful jocularity... Thanks for the GREAT idea...

free.. is free... and I cant argue against it. sounds like a very cost effective way of making your life a little nicer. Where' I'm at the frost and rodents would kill the idea of carpet over sand/clay.

A customer from Missouri just sent in this review of his 55" Single Lid Wicked Utility Grapple for tractors up to 75hp. He has it installed on a Kioti RX7030.

"So far I am impressed with this unit. Am stepping up from a 48" grapple on a 50 HP tractor to this unit on a 74 HP tractor.

I researched grapples for several weeks before pulling the trigger on this one. The build quality is very good, beautiful in fact. The single lid is a personal preference as is the narrow width for the type of work I do.

The geometry on this grapple is optimum. The bottom tines are long enough to get under quite a bit of material as contrasted with the clamshell style. The lid has an extremely generous opening which is important when getting a big "bite". The lid has serrated semi circles that make it possible to grab a log end on to drag it out of the woods to an open area which is very nice compared to my old unit where I had to try and engage a tine on the lid and hope it didn't slip off.

Also has been wonderful for moving rocks.

So far it has been an excellent value."

I just ordered my 72" dual lid from EA today. Looking forward to some serious tree removal around my field edges. I've also got a lot of downed trees and brush to clear in the timber. My timber is impassable in many areas as there hasn't been any livestock ran in about 40 years. Trying to improve the hunting and overall appearance. Travis at EA was a big help.
