Just went out to bring in Wally. Two jets were flying by. The contrails of five other jets heading in the same direction were in the air. Before September 11 I would have went hunh? Now I go HUNH???

I think half the clouds here in the middle of Missouri originate as contrails.

No joke dudes, many clouds are initiated by high flying aircraft. It is being studdied as a source of changing weather/climate.

I wasn't joking...there have been days when the only clouds up there were lots of dots and dashes and still intact contrails. You can literally watch those things mutate into larger clouds sometimes. It's just overcast this morning. I suppose I can't blame that on the guys from Whiteman's! /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

When I was working the property on Saturday it was overcast in the morning.
I heard what sounded like 4 or more military jets flying over. They sounded
fairly low but I never saw a thing.

Its the first time I have heard them before. I have heard/seen heavy Jolly
Green Giant copters flying over and I have seen them refueling from C130s
but never jets.

The property is somewhat close to Ft Bragg and Pope AFB maybe 100 miles or
so by the crow but its the first time I have heard that racket since living in
Shreveport LA. There was a SAC base across the river and we would see,
hear, and feel the B52s fly over all the time. Very impressive.....

I think the History Channel or maybe Discovery is having a program on about
the BUFFs tonight, Monday the 15th.

I recall in the late fifties it was fairly common to hear jets breaking the sound barrier. The jets I saw the other day were probably out of Otis AFB. Seven jets heading West in a very short timespan.
