The Plot Thickens: Enter the Kubota L3010

I went through the same thing as you and went for the L3410 and now with 45 hours on her I have zero complaints. It's strong, tuff, HST is smooth and unbeatable for manuvering with the loader. I'm sure the JD and NH are great machines but after comparing prices, features and quality I felt the bota was top shelf. For me one of the things that pushed me over to the Kubota was the fact that they build their own units where JD has the compacts built by another source and NH is Fiat and their cars never impressed me on build quality or reliabilty. I'm sure that I'd be happy with any of the three, but with everything considered I think Kubota is a tough one to beat. If you go Bota loader get the HD round back bucket, it is worth the small differance in price if you are going to do any heavy work.

I took your suggestion and perused the "Off Topic & Just For Fun" forum. I was especially impressed with the rather esoteric discussion about the possibility/impossibility of mass achieving the speed of light. I can't wait for the debate on quantum mechanics and parallel universes... Seriously, I read through the thread you initiated on Aug 14. Point well taken. Nonetheless, Kubota, for my money, still offers the best value. That said, I still have a long way to go... and I'm grateful to everyone, like yourself, who are helping to point the way...

It happened to me. I started looking at Kubota and ended up with an M6800 4WD. It seemed much smaller on the lot next to a cabbed M9000. It seemed huge in front of my garage with the ROPS folded and still too big to fit in my garage.

I should have rented an L series for a weekend and found out if it would do what I really needed.

Price some bota parts before you get one. I mean, more than filters. Imagine if you really had to do a significant repair. Price some of the plastic parts, that is, if broken plastic is going to bother you. You might find JD is lower "cost of ownership". Also, read some posts about backordered bota parts.

This seems to be a no brainer to me, if the L3010 is truly $800 less than a JD4200. The L3010 is more tractor than the JD 4200 and more directly comparable to the JD 4300. Since, the 3010 is only $500 more than the 2910 forget the 2910. I don't see the dilemma here. The scales clearly tip in the L3010s favor.

Pokey:

Your tone suggests you know more than what you are stating. If Kubota parts are that much more expensive than JD parts, (and this is what you seem to imply), then please present your facts. Sure, as you suggest, I could spend time searching the site for the information you seem to already know; but, if, in fact, the "cost of ownership" is higher with a Kubota, I'm sure there are a number of people who would certainly appreciate your sharing evidence of that with us. I know I would.

Come on, cost of ownership?

My cost of ownership has been a few gallons of hydraulics oil, and a couple of filters at 50 hours, the 100 hour service from the dealer, and diesel fuel.

Besides, I'll take metal over plastic any day. At least on the tractor.

Pokey -

I'm too new at the tractor game to take sides here, but what do you mean by "<font color=blue>Price some of the plastic parts</font color=blue>"? I can find precious little plastic on my L2500, and as near as I can tell the Grand L's have similar construction.

Just looking for clarification... /w3tcompact/icons/crazy.gif

We have owned 4 Kubotas since 1994.Other than routine servce,we have not spend ONE dime on parts or anything else for these machines. Now,you can believe this or not;I know a fellow who has a Mowing Service that owns 2- B2150's.Each one of these units has over 3500 hours. One is a DT and one is a Hydro. To date this man has had to buy a battery and a fan belt for the Hydro,a battery, a throw-out bearing, and fan belt for the DT.A total of over 7000 hours with a parts cost of about $150.00,not including regular service. To me,this is what I would call "a little better than average service"

Now that is an amazing record of service. Another very compelling reason for Mr. Hook to run out and purchase that L3010 post-haste. I would sincerely doubt any other make could approach that record.
