I guess it is all about the age thing. I use to work in 100 degree weather and do fine. Didn't like it but you did what you had to do. Now close to 60 with the doctors and wife are telling me that I am not in my 20's anymore and never will be again. I have to pay more attention to conditions. If your wife if like mine she may know more about what is right for you than you do. That can be a good thing when testosterone exceeds reality.

Exactly, I am 63 and use to not even think about working in the heat. My doctors and wife are telling me I am not even in my 50's anymore:eek:

I can't believe that one would leave their Tractor keys where the wife could get them :confused2: ..... In this case with the high temp, it appears that she did the right thing... One should think about a cab with heat & A/C... My wife wants me to find a cab for my tractor.. I'm thinking a bigger tractor with cab :D...

btw, It's usually cheaper to keep her..... brin, sounds like you have a keeper...

Mark...I am 65 yrs. young and still think like I am 30 but my wife has clearly explained reality to me. I agree with you...upper 90 deg and 100deg. is nothing to play with.. I won't take the chance but I sure did want to get those pastures cut...It means when I do get to cut it will be in 2nd gear and will be slow going...it is high.

To all you guys that think I should get an air conditioned cab...It just would not work on my property..I have many pecan trees I have to mow around and with a cab I could not do it ...as it is I have to fold the ROPS down when I use the NH TC-29 and the JD 3020 is too tall to use around the trees. I sure could not get rid of my wife ...46 yrs. and counting..I'm just glad she still puts up with me...:thumbsup:

I'm close to 60 and I remember paving asphalt roads in my 20's in 100 deg heat. Asphalt was close to 190 deg out of the truck and we would stand ankle deep in it, heat rising up your legs, while you shoveled like crazy. That same activity would most assuredly do me in today. I just recently dug an 18 ft long trench by hand in heat close to 90 deg. Took a lot longer than usual, took lots of breaks in the shade, lots of water but got 'er done. 100 degrees? I would have waited for a cooler day.

The thing is: your body will tell you what your limits are for the conditions. Take it easy, go slow and when you feel out of sorts, go inside or sit a spell in the shade.

We also have places a cabbed unit won't fit, so we keep some older model open station tractors and even got a rotary cutter for my BX2660 and John Deere 2305.

Are there a few hours in the early am where you could get out and do a little each day, staying well hydrated of course? I assume you have some sort of shade cover (even a removable umbrella or soft top if trees are an issue).

Sounds like you need a bigger tractor with a cab, AND a side arm boom mower to reach under the trees!
You might be getting yelled at in a couple of weeks because the fields are too high. But that still beats heat stroke...

I've done that, get out at 5 a.m. and mow for a couple of hours. My tractor has good lights so it isn't too bad and 5 a.m. these days doesn't seem as early as it did when I was hung over and 20. Of course 9 p.m. starts feeling late and I use to go out on the town about that time of day.:ashamed:

Go work from 6am-10am. Then shut it down.

Out here, it is not only a danger to the operator from heat, but things are so dry... Have to do any cutting while the dew and humidity is still high.

Well 100 degree temps requires caution for all ages. If you are in good heart health and take necessary precautions, cutting your pasture is doable. If you are not in good health, I'd say it is not worth the risk.

If you decide to continue, set up some type of seat shade, dress in white clothing, stay hydrated and avoid afternoon sun. Early morning or evening mowing might work better.

Even with your rops folded you could probably find a way to bungee a wide golf umbrella to give you shade yet permit working around your trees. Put on a pair of loose white painters coveralls. Sunscreen on exposed skin and face. Pack a cooler full of water and keep drinking while you mow. Work for an hour or two at a time. Take breaks and check in often with the 'boss' on how you feel.
