No, just boosting/sending the signal 150 yards up the Mtn from the Quonset hut where the Hughesnet sat dish is located. From the Tree House this is how far the quonset w/ the other directional antenna is away:

Did the Gen 4 require a new dish and new modem or just a new modem?
I can understand Hughes trying to get new customers with offers of free installation and free rental fees, but looking at their home page it says these offers only apply to new customers. If us old customers have to pay more than the new ones we are getting jerked off. The alternate case would be no new equipment needed, so that is why my question above.
Also is there a new 24 month commitment?
I purchased my old system outright and the disk is mounted to a pole cemented in the ground, at an extra fee, at that time. The equipment was guaranteed for 24 months. Lucky for me the first 9000 modem burned up before 24 months so they replaced it for free. The second one has lasted more than 24 months but probably wasn't guaranteed from the start. I put a very small fan next to it and it runs cool. Why they didn't include a fan inside the modem is beyond me.
On the site it looks like the $100 plan has a possible download max speed of 15 MBps and upload speed of 2 MBps with a 40 GIG per month limit.
It doesn't indicate if that is a lease or buy price?
It would be interesting, if you have time, to run some speed tests at different times and see what you get as an average and post them here.
To be fair they should probably be run from the Hut so your transmission to the house wouldn't slow things down. A comparison test up there would also be interesting.

This is a good site to test your download/upload speed. Speedtest.net - The Global Broadband Speed Test

My results on a high speed cable connection, with my laptop wireless connected to the router.
Download speed 19.72 Mbps
Upload speed 1.22 Mbps

New dish transmitter only, and a new modem. New Sat is at 240 degrees & 41 degree elevation. Yes a 24 month commitment and the equipment is leased...no option to purchase yet. Installation was $49. I have an entire 9000 system (dish transmitter & modem) so I rekon I should sell it before it's obsolete.

Zing I ran the speed test.....3.30MBps download & 469 kbps up. My antenna's are probably slowing things down some & I never ran the test when hooked directly to the satellite.

Wow, that's way short of 15/2
There are a lot of speed tests and some are more slanted toward satellite. You might try some others. They will all vary at different times of the day though.
Your first results are so slow I would suggest taking a laptop to the Hut, disconnect the transmitters to the mountain, and connect the laptop direct to the new modem for some tests. That's the only way you will know if the installer did a sloppy alignment or the equipment is faulty and then call Hughes if it is.
I would never expect to get their advertised 15 MBps unless I lived in Maryland.
How is the delay/latency factor compared to your 9000 modem?
It would be interesting to hook up your old 9000 system to your new transmitters and see what speed you get up on the mountain with it compared to the new one. Might be more **** to make Hughes pay attention to a problem install on the Gen 4.

I've just been too busy to fool with it, but I will test it with a direct hook up. I did a little research before purchasing and most folks were seeing 7-8MBps. I didn't have any illusions that it would be equal to DSL....but it is a big step from <1MBps.

Wondering what you ended up doing with the well water??

In my case, the well developed an iron problem, and as I understand it, the iron once exposed to air (oxygen) will come out of suspension, and that makes the water get a bit cloudy, or gray.....I think the sulfur smell you were speaking about can be controlled by spraying water through a nozzle, like a spray tank......Our water took on a faint taste, sort of like salt, but I am told iron....I`m going to sent the test sample at 25$ a shot before i do anything more......I might put a small osmosis thing in just for the kitchen......Be careful of long term use of water that may have something in it that could do you harm....Tony

Tony I went with the chemical free aeration filtration system:
Aeration / Filtration Iron Removal System

The well drilling company installed it and it works perfect...zero odor.

Pacer I definitely have a problem someplace in the antenna set up and will be going over it again tomorrow. My signal strength is bouncing a bit and my connection is intermittent at times. I am sure it is an an alignment problem with my antennas. We bought a smart TV and it seems even more sensitive to this than the home computer.

When we got online at our property, we talked to Comcast Cable and to our local phone company about internet access. Comcast wanted to charge use $4 or $5K to install a cable 900 ft from the street to our house. The phone company didn't charge anything to run a phone cable for DSL internet and a phone line. Plus trying to work out details with Comcast was like pulling teeth; they were very slow to respond and wouldn't ever commit to anything. Thus we went with DSL from the phone company. It would be nice to have the faster cable internet, especially when I am working at home, but Comcast really turned me off. We don't watch TV so saying no to the cable company wasn't hard to do.

I assume you went with DSL since fios is not available from your phone company?

Antenna alignment was almost perfect. I called the tech(L-Com has fantastic customer service!) and he said the intermittent signal strength is caused from being behind the antenna at the receiving end. I added an old Linksys router to the system here at the log house and signal is mucho better:
Download speed- 9.10 Mbps
Upload speed- 0.08 Mbps
