RR, sorry.......I was Helter Skelter yesterday. AM- had a 16 roll Hay delivery, so I went to hook up the 20' bevaertail. Rats...I forgot that the last time I used it to haul the rafters up to the house site I broke 6 forward welds from the bed to the frame. Over to the shop, used the tractor to flip the trailer up on it's side so I didn't have to weld upside down.....which I really despise. Put the welder up and load the rolls, deliver hay...yap with customer for 45min. Got back to the shop and had to clean it out(in laws are inbound tonight from Manitoba). Just closed the shop doors and see the roof helpers arriving. Dash up to the house, harness up and get on the scary man lift. We finished it at dark...and I ummm, er...ahh... plumb forgot the camera:D

Ok, I have the camera in my mitts.....concrete is arriving at 0900 hrs:thumbsup:

Oh, and this is what was left of 300+ logs:
RoofDoneBasementSlab014.jpg

I will have to mill a few more for the bird blocks and some porch posts but I was happy with the small amount of waste. The blocks will make great fire starters.

It's raining now and it is a big weight off the shoulders knowing the house will stay dry

I'm impressed. Keep up the good work, or better yet, take a breather, then get back on it!

Rick,
Your an inspiration.:D Instead of buying a used Harley:(, I am looking for a used sawmill. I will mark off..............build Log home........off of my bucket list. Do you ever cut logs for others for trade or cash?

Aww Brandi...a sawmill instead of a HD? That's a rotten choice to make....I know I already did that... kinda. I sold my '98 RoadKing a 7 years ago when the funds were short. Something always seemed to pop up when I tried to buy another one. Couldn't stand not having 2 wheels & bought a DR350 for peanuts. Got tired of kick starting the finicky thing and a couple of years later bought a DRZ400S with eeeeleeectric start, then sold the DR350. I have to say I love the Dual Sports...we have more gravel roads here than paved:thumbsup:

Anyway, yes a mill is a really useful tool, you will defiantly get your money out of it.

I have not sawed much for anyone else yet. I might when/if I find the time because once the house is done I need to finish sawing out the lumber for the 60x80' barn. After that who knows............

Rick,
I used to ride my brother's Honda XL 350. We have tons of rice paddy levees down here and that bike knew how to fly over them. Here is a shot of the HD I am passing on. It is a 2008 Hertiage Softail. Maybe when I retire, I will buy one for the open road.;)
hugs, Brandi

Dual Sports, or back in the "day" we called then Enduro's.....pure pleasure to ride on the small twisty black top, gravel roads, trails etc. Not a big investment for some perma-grin:D

My FIL(He is a retired plumber) & I went to HD & Lowes today. Came home with all the 3", 2" & 1.5" pvc pipe and fittings, 300' of Pex w/fittings, a a whole house Bosh tankless water heater & studs for the two walls that will house the plumbing. I am shocked at the prices of PVC.....holeey crap this trip cost about $1400 just for rough in plumbing.

Don't think about how much it cost, Think about how much the plumber would have charged you and how much the general contractor would have added. Then think about how much money you have saved by putting your FIL to work doing the plumbing with you assisting. Your sweat especially on the hot days of this past summer is worth a whole lot.

I usually "overbuy" on the fittings, elbows and such so that I have options and don't have to go back for another piece. Then when I'm done, I take back all the excess.

I here ya RR and having Ken here to let me help him with this is awesome. I just keep getting sticker shock at the store....a 2x6x10 Fir....$6.58 and the same in PT was a dollar cheaper. We are pressed for time, so I bought the lumber instead of milled it....that won't happen again.
I talked to my logger who said that back in the "heyday" he was getting more $ for a load of logs then now, yet these logs turned into lumber have doubled in price. It should not be called a "law of supply and demand"....how about a "finicky whimsical greed driven supply and demand"? Sorry for the whining...back to work;)

In time, you can make some really nice furniture with those long pieces, such as bed frames, tables, fireplace mantles, shelves, and other items. Of course, they'll probably need to be milled down some. Just a thought, but you may have already had that in mind.

Tom, I'm feeling guilty...have neglected the bike and the horses this year. Moved some stuff around in the shop the other day, tried to fire up the DRZ..dead battery. No excuse it is wired for a battery tender...so it is plugged in now.

Kebo, all those are going into the house, porch posts, French door framing, walk in closet walls, etc. I will have to pull some more out of the woods and mill them to get everything done. Yes, I will build some furniture & some railings, just have to get the Forstener bits and Tenon maker bits.

The basement came out perfect. I waited a day and a half before walking on it...a little too soon as cool as it is here, but we had to get going on the plumbing. My FIL is amazing...74 this week and he is up on the ladder/scaffolding, working non stop...I hope I am as good of shape when I am his age.

Basement bathroom wall up & rough-in started:

Then the sidewalk and garage skirt was supposed to get poured this AM. The garage door people called and wanted to do the install...also AM. So, I asked my concrete guy if he could adjust his schedule..no problem. Well..the garage door guys were late & didn't call, so the see-ment truck was ordered. Yep, the garage door guys showed up 10 min before the concrete arrived. It all worked out, they off loaded into the basement and worked while the sidewalk/skirt was finished. A raised walk board was made so we could access the basement and not make little feet prints in the wet cement.
