The Incredible Shrinking Package

Funny, I noticed the rolls move around on the Holders more than before and was wondering why.
Also, one idea that I am not sure ever really got off the ground, "No center cardboard roll", what's up with that !
No center roll would mean that they have to be a standard size.
I actually saw that in a medical office yesterday. They had just indented the centers on both ends, no hole in the center at all..

Has anybody mentioned that toilet paper rolls have gotten narrower?

As have newspapers...reading the newspaper is like reading a letter written on toilet paper (almost).

Finally! Someone else who actually reads newspapers???

I know it may be archaic but I really enjoy having/reading the morning paper.

I do also, but we can't get them up here anymore.

I’m pretty sure my home delivery days are coming to an end soon ..if not the demise of the local paper itself. I’ll miss it.

We get the Sunday and the Wednesday; I enjoy the front page, local news, the funnies and "find six differences". I also peruse the obits.

This is a lot of discussion of shrinkage of newspapers,, but, has anyone PRICED a Sunday paper lately??

The Rinky Dink Roanoke Times Sunday paper is priced at $4,,, that is not for a months worth,, that is ONE COPY!! :confused2:

AND, the Sunday paper today is about the same size as the Thursday paper was 5-10 years ago,, just a tad bigger than other weekday papers,,
That size estimation even includes the Sunday Coupons,,,

Same here but I only get it 5days/wk, have to read it on-line Mon/Tue. The day is coming when even the on-line version may die. Advertising revenue to he newspapers is about nil anymore.

You actually found a newspaper?
and it was not 'on line'?

What about the last NEWS STAND you saw?

Our local grocery stores carry newspapers, but news stands? I haven't seen one in years.

I think the Boston Globe is $2.50 or $3 for the daily. Even the Manchester Union-Leader is up to $1.50 for the daily, so-called "special issues" are double that for an extra section that's mostly ads.

I haven't seen that newspaper coupons are worth the bother...most of 'em seem to be for stuff I'd never buy anyway.

That having been said, add me to the list of those who still enjoy reading the paper. Only pick it up a couple days a week though (Monday, Friday and sometimes Thurs).
We have several weekly freebies too...mostly obituaries and press releases by non profit groups, but some local news not reported elsewhere too.

I'm thinking that most, if not all, major newspapers will soon be a thing of the past but that the local weeklies will probably survive.
TV (like CNN) covers all major events but very little if ever local news.
Perhaps a few morning papers might survive mainly for the commuter crowd that follow sports and ride trains daily.

Shucks even our local weekly is attempting to have us read on line now, and its free!

I do read my news over the net but more and more are wanting us to 'subscribe', which I won't do as CNN (and others) are already paid for in my TV package.

Anyone notice that the toilet paper rolls are getting shorter, just look at all the extra space on the sides of the roll when you put it in your holder. :confused3:
Makes rolls easier to put on. Lol

You mean CNN hasnt folded yet? Their sorry days are numbered.

To be frank about it, I enjoy the Sunday funnies more than anything else in the paper. I do look for the flyers from say, Academy or Bass Pro shop, and will read the obits and local news, but mostly just skip through the national news, since I've heard most of it before two or three times.

One of our local enterprising doughnut stores sells doughnut holes, just a little ball of doughnut that would fit in the hole.

Buy the holes since the calories are in the donut.

I would but they sugar coat them:(
The hospital where my daughter works buy doughnuts for the staff, she brings some home and they are huge, stuffed with cream and fruit or coated in chocolate, she said they cost almost AU$20 for a box of six.

Back to shrinking packages, I have been off work sick for the past 3 weeks and you should see my pay packet, I lose weekend penalty rates at time and a hal;f and double time, evening shift allowances of 15% and overnight penalty of AU$100, I work 35 hours a fortnight and this has cut my pay in half but I save in fuel as it is a about a 150km round trip.
