I don't know anything about the "designer" breeds but have a friend who is selling fat cattle at the highest prices he ever has. They run a large feedlot (12,000 head) and custom feed for other producers in addition to their own cattle. Some weeks they will ship out 6 semi loads to slaughter and then it might be a couple weeks or even 3 before they ship again. He has showed me sales slips of some loads and it's crazy the prices that they bring. The other thing that is crazy is there is a Tyson slaughter house less than a 100 mile away. Sometimes the buyer isn't Tyson but a slaughterhouse in Pennsylvania. They will be high bidder and then pay $5,000 per load to ship them 900 miles.
