I would like to dethatch my lawn while mowing. I am wondering about a dethatcher that could be mounted to the front of the Bota and mow at the same time?? /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

On the front?--no such thing to my knowledge---how would you steer? There are aerarots, do a search under the equipment forum in general topics. J

Does the BX2200 have a front PTO drive? I didn't think so, and if not, how would you power the dethatcher? A hydraulic motor? I have a power sweeper for my tractor that I also use as a dethacher. As both the sweeper and the mower deck use the same mounting system, I can only use one at a time. But the sweeper generates enough debris that I wouldn't want to be trying to mow at the same time. I think you would be better off getting a dethatcher for your 3ph and doing your mowing and dethatching in separate passes.

Several companies make a spring tine unit which will attach to the front of a tractor. It requires no drives as it uses coil spring tines to lift the thatch. It isn't as good as a power thatcher by any means but it does work and is far more economical to buy.

bx 2200 can run front mounted pto driven attachments. the mid pto is extended to the front with a shaft. this is how the front mount snow blowers are run.

True, but the original poster wanted to run the dethatcher at the same time as the MMM...no can do as it's the same PTO!

No it does not fit, but with a little creativity I am sure could be arranged. But, they want $419 /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif for this unit and I will bow out at that price. Agrifab makes a pull behind for $47. I just thought how neat it would be to dethatch, mow and pull my sprayer all at the same time. /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

Oh well,

Perhaps you could modify the pull behind one to be a push in front of one.

"Agrifab makes a pull behind for $47"

Oh yeah, I am gonna run right out a buy a few of those /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif. Really, I would not waste my money on such junk and junk is being mild, they are less than junk. J

Well Tres, I have read alot of your posts and would welcome your ideas. $400+ seems a bit pricey to me but $47 no doubt would not last.

I had a front mount dethatcher for my Sears Crapsman lawn tractor that worked pretty well. If I could only modify it to fit my Kubota ..... /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Sorry, I don't have any ideas on a front mounted dethatcher. I am not even sure I believe in dethatching. I do core aerate with my First Choice aerator. It is a real implement, bronze bearings and grease zerks and does a fine job. The aeration probably helps with any thatch. I am told fescue is not as bad with thatch as say St. Augustine. I don't think you will be able to mow, aerate, fertilize and dethatch all in one operation at the same time--there are no such implements. As to Agrifab and the rest of that kind of stuff from the box stores and Wally World, why bother? Yes, 400 dollars is a lot of money, sorry to say this but I have found nearly all tractor implements, especially implements for small tractors to be pricey and rarely available used or as rental. Such is the way of the world. Your BX would look kinda foolish pulling a 40 dollars dethathcer from Home Depot, that I do think and would be a waste of your time as well.
Why there is no rear PTO powered seeder, thatcher of about 48 inch width such as the small 24 inch self powered push units available at rental outlests beats me. They use approximately 5/6 horse engines. Your PTO has 12-20 commonly on small tractors so there should be pelnty of power to run a similar unit in the 48/54 inch range. Maybe after I finish building my airplane I will build one, seems easy enough, I will add that to my lifetime project list /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif. J

TresCrows, I agree with your posts about why no smaller, more inexpensive implements. I don't understand why there isn't a 50 or 60 inch verticutter.

I currently have all the iron I need to build a spike aerator that will mount to the bottom of my box blade (got the idea from a post on this site). I'd rather build a core aerator, but not sure I can do the spoons and buying them adds to the cost.

I'd hoped to have this done in time to work the yard this fall, but ran out of time..........

Best wishes,
Ron

Sounds workable, give it a try, sounds like you have a project for your project list /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif Ron. J

Ron,

Where'd you see that? Can't find it via search.

It wasn't a pic, just someone mentioning (he was pondering building some stuff) and wondered why no one was using the bottom of their box blades, since it already had the 3PH and end frames in place for stuff.

I'm just trying to do what he suggested.....

I did some shopping today and found an aerator that when filled with water weighs around 550 lbs. It is simply an aerator and pokes holes in the ground w/o removing plugs. Good quality piece of equip. I was just wondering about not removing plugs. Having once worked on a golf course I understand the importance of plugging and verticutting on greens. I do not see it as a big deal in the yard. My high composition clay yard is just in need of water and nutrients.

Sorry to resurrect an old thread,
but Sears item# 07124312000 Mfr. model# 24312
can be made to work in the front of the BX2200. You may have to torch a bit of plate stock. Bolt the plate to the BX, and the dethacher to the plate.

I did not use the lifting rod yet, because my brother had my welder, and the rod needs to be extended. Instead, I ran a rope over my front end loader boom cross piece, and attached it to the front wheel mount of the dethacher.
I Pull on the rope to lift. Sometimes I tie off the rope, and raise the boom to lift.

I have used it five or six times already. The hardest time was when I was trying to scratch red clay to cover grass seed. It held up fine.

When considering how to attach, remember...any force comes from pushing it. Your mount can be quite simple. Once your plate is attached, unit goes on/off in seconds.

I bought mine 10/29/07 for $136 delivered.
