Texas Fall/Winter thread!

It's wacky, but in the springtime when Ron & Betty are heading home, they normally stop by. No matter how long we have been in a drought, it always seems to rain when they come. I hate to say it, but them bringing rain is more reliable than FG doin' the cowpie two-step in her pasture. I think maybe it's Muffin doing her own version of the fuzzy-butt rain dance. Just look at that face in Ron's avatar. She even attracts flocks of wild turkeys. One year, two or three turkeys were scratchin' around Ron's motorhome while Muffin was watching out the windshield. I swear that little dog has some powerful Juju.

Muffin has her good points. But rain dances? I hope we can do it again next April. Would be a good time for another TX get together.

If I remember correctly(and that sometimes seems to be a chore) FG's 2 step this summer brought quite a good rain. I think I will depend on local talent and prayer(lots) to deliver precipitation.

With the wind we had yesterday, the Fall Colors won't last long if that keeps up. So you better hurry if you want to see one of the better Falls in a while.

Lou; Those are awesome photos! Sorry, but I'll miss seeing you on TV. I don't even have a TV! After years of having so many channels, and still nothing that I wanted to watch, I just removed it all! Haven't missed it either. (Well, escept for now, when I'll miss your singing and dancing!)

Native; The wind never did lie down last night either. You are correct, the intense Fall colors will be completely gone from the trees soon.

I'm off to work early again. I think the boss is trying to run me ragged, before Thanksgiving. Only Wednesday morning, and I have over 25 hours in, this week! :confused2:

I have a friend going to treat me to lunch today, at a new Thai food place that opened in town. I hope it is good, because I love real Thai food! :cool2:

FG- When I was younger the wind would blow and it never bothered me, I didn't think much about it. But now after 3 years working on a flight deck with 30 knots of wind most of the time it makes me a little(?) nuts. When the wind cranks up I try my best to get out of it.

I hear ya, Native! The wind bothers me too! I guess I am funny about it though. If I am going down the road with the wondows open, it doesn't bother me, or on a tractor, but if I am trying to do anything else, I look for ways to avoid being in it. Seems to happen after we pass 27! :drink:

Ron, Whipper wants a little muffin for breakfast, the snakes are hibernating. With the October rains the stickers had a field day. With Muffin's low clearance she is the perfect yard sticker cleaner.

Mike and I were talking about his grapple last week and he gave me the fever. The grapple I bought from Harvey was a bit heavy, could not really dig, and collected too much sand. My cousin, a few years back who had just order a new one like I had for his bobcat, was more than happy to cancel his order and make a deal.

I want a small one 48"-54" mostly for digging and collecting the small cedars and youpon from around the Post Oaks. Island Tractor found this size to work best for clearing brush in woods and I can see why. A single closure is OK (since it will be small) but I want it to open 4' wide. There are lots of grapple threads to review.....

What are you trying to lift? Cat 2 drawbar should handle whatever a Cat 2 three point can lift. Cat 1 drawbar should handle whatever a Cat 1 three point can lift.

If you use Cat 1 and bushings on a Cat 2 Tractor you could get yourself in trouble. This is why we have Cat 0 to Cat 3.

I don't remember being 27!!! There does seem to be some Blank spots........I don't know if it's by accident or design.

Thanks for the link Brandi, It looks like I need to decide if I need a rake type (BRG) with the biggest opening or bucket shaped type like yours. I looked at some rake type at a dealer today but they were not quite like I want.

Your welcome Don. I went with "bucket" type because I can stack limbs that I gather around the yard and use it with the grapples open. But sometimes I really would like to have the rake type. It's a head scratcher.

Come down here Don -- I have both types sitting in my barn and a good location to test them both out. I have the root grapple type and Larry has the brush grapple type...(like you pictured). He bought his at Paige tractor with his Kioti. We can even switch them out between tractors if you want. The weather is turning bad for the next few days but close to turkey day will be better.

The one I looked at was at Paige Tractor. They said they can get just about type. Have you tried both? What are the advantages and disadvantages of each?
