Ok, at the expense of sounding stupid, I gotta know what wicking is. Never heard of it. I don't know what this grass is y'all are talking about but as western said I probably have some. Not sure what ripping is either. Around here we have a lot of goatweed. Especially if ya disturb the soil goatweed is gonna come up.

But FG, how do you rip the KR bluestem without ripping the native little bluestem. Won't it also rip the bermuda? Then again, ripping the bermuda might just stimulate it like a good aeration.:confused3:

I don't care if I get rid of ALL Bluestem. I don't have much of the Little Blue around anyway. And I am betting ripping the bermuda will make it happier. One is to only rip the KR BS 2" deep. Anything deeper will dig up more seeds, according to the stuff I am reading. I think bermuda grass roots go much deeper than that, where they can.

I sit on some sand, but have rock under it, and the ground slopes. Even when fertilized, some areas grow good grass better than others. I am just planning to concentrate on the areas that I can get a 2" depth with the harrow/ripper, and also have some decent grass there to be happy with the aerating. If all does well next Spring, with my plan, I'll declare all out war on the KR BS for the future!

And here is a little info on wicking. I have been seeing some links of folks building their own. If I were that talented, I'd probably try to make one. However, if I go with a wicker, I'll have to buy one. Too many projects that are needing attention, right now, and a "regular job" as well.

FG, I used a chisel plow on mine, it was localized in small areas so it was very doable. The coastal ( had 3 strains, Giant ,777 and cant remember the last one) anyway, the Bermuda loved the chisel plow and the discing that followed. I only had it in areas where the Bermuda was thinning.

Edit: Bermuda roots can get down to 20' in good conditions from what the AG told me.

Well, what does the Attorney General know about Bermuda grass, anyhow?;) I've heard 9' deep, but never 20'.:confused3:

From the Texas A&M Aggie Horticulture site:
"The depth of the rootzone also influences the frequency of irrigations. Bermudagrass roots can grow to a depth of six feet or more depending on soil profile characteristics. However, the majority of the root system, 80% or more, is found in the top 6 inches of soil. Where roots extend several feet into the soil, thorough and infrequent irrigation produces the most drought tolerant turf. Light, frequent irrigations such as practiced on golf greens produce shallow-rooted grass that shows drought stress very rapidly."

For all y'all propeller heads, San Marcos airport has a special on Avgas right now. 1$ per gallon, not sure how long it will last. You have to fly in to buy it. No containers. It is a promotion.

Wow! That should sell a lot of snacks and lunches while the folks fly in there.:)
Are hot dogs and baloney sandwiches $7.00 each?

Up here 100 LL is $5.80 to $6.40 per gallon.

DUH!!! That's like saying where cars are sparse on the highway, traffic jams are infrequent. God bless the Aggies. They are always good for a few laughs.:D

I'm not worried, Kyle. The best Aggie jokes I've ever heard were told by Aggies. Of course, that may be like brothers who fight each other until somebody on the outside picks a fight with one of them. Then, they come to each other's aid. Besides, the water that runs off my Bermuda grass just waters my thirsty St. Augustine.

Those aggies may know how to grow grass, but I heard that when they bought astro turf for the football field, they called the manufacturer to ask how to install it. They were told to install it with the green side up.
