Quite frequently, I see posts that state if you violate the manufacturers limits, or do some thing dumb that burns down you house that your insurance company might not pay a claim. Given this scenario, if any one who ran a stop sign and hit someone, or lost control of their vehicle, or overloaded their vehicle and got in an accident might not be compensated by their insurance.

My insurance protects me from "All Perils" regardless of how they occur, even my own stupidity.

Can anyone give me an actual case where insurance coverage was denied (other than willful damage)?

yes. we had a neighbor that succeeded in burning down his house from a woodburning fireplace he put in his basement. basement was built without a permit (completed that is) and fireplace was installed without a permit. Insurance paid nothing to him

also, plenty of claims have went unpaid from earthquakes, tornadoes, etc. all these are considered ALL PERILS...but dont get paid.

I know a guy who burt down his house and truck changing a fuel filter using a regular table lamp minus the shade. When he cracked the line the fuel sprayed on the bulb busting it starting a fire.

I also used to go and plow my bosses 1 mile long paved drive back in the 90's. He told me to do it first because of the steepness of his drive and snow if the fire department could not make it up his insurance would deny his claim. Not sure if true or not but his place was 25,000 sq feet and he had a pole barn housing 60 classic cars.

Most of the time, they will pay, but there might be certain exclusions. For example, most home owners insurance don't cover flood or earthquake, subsidence and a couple of other things. I know when my 16 year old son started driving, he could not let anyone else drive his car. We could give anyone permisssion to drive and be covered but he couldn't.

All insurance policies have exclusions, even the best all-risks policies. Accidental actions are usually covered, but criminal or intentional aren't. Commercial activities are also excluded, on lest the insurer is advised and permits it ( like a small office). There is nothing better than to discuss it with the insurance broker.

when we changed house insurance companies last year, the new company wanted pics of the serial number plate on the wood burning insert in my masonry fireplace, also pics of the top of the masonry chimney showing that a liner was installed.
I suppose if you mislead the insurance company about a potential hazard, and then that hazard is responsible for a loss... they'll likely not pay.
