My Tc40a will only idle and produces alot of black smoke. i changed the fuel filter and that hasn't helped. do you think it is injectors or something simple. any help would be appreciated. thanks

Did you check the air filter? Black smoke is typically caused by the engine being over fueled or under aired.

i cleaned the air filter not long ago and the dust has been minimal but i will check that again. thanks

You could have a injector failure. That would allow the fuel to enter the cylinder all the time.

Pour some diesel conditioner in with new fuel and replace the fuel filter. You've already cleaned the air cleaner. I'm fairly sure it's not the pump. You've probably got some bad fuel or a piece of carbon/ dirt is not letting an injector valve close completely on it's seat. Black smoke is excess fuel versus air.

Pull your outer air filter and look at the inner filter. It's easy to get the inner filter reversed and block all air to the engine. The solid end should point outward and the hollow end toward the engine. Don't ask me how I know.

The underhood foam insulation pad on my TC45a came partially undone from the hood and was drooping down and sucking into the air inlet and did the same thing yours is doing. A little weatherstip adhesive cured the problem.

After you have made absolutely certain the air intake system is sound, check the fuel tank and be sure it has diesel fuel in it, not gasoline.
