My tc40 has developed a problem where the PTO constantly spins. The valve body under the seat that the PTO lever moves does turn. Is there anything to adjust in this or check prior to tearing down?

I was grinding alot of stumps so the PTO does work it just dosnt disengage property. The machine was making a bit of a bad bearing noise or metal on metal noise.

I believe this machine has a pto clutch pack that needs pressure to release? A quick look at the exploded view shows the PTO clutch at the bottom of the trans..does this mean it will need to be totaly disassembled to remove and check?

Explain the part about "was making a bit of bad bearing noise". The noise has stopped? The "PTO constantly spins" came before, during, or after that?

And yes, the tractor will need to come apart to access the clutch pack. It has a spring applied brake setup that releases when the clutch is pressurized to operate. Yours is apparently no longer functioning.

It sounded like a loose washer rattling around. I added fluid to the top of the hash Mark's and it has gone away when PTO off but still makes the noise with PTO on.

Is there any negative to leaving this to repair until warmer weather? The machine will get about 5hr use until then. No PTO attachments will be used. In fact the only PTO attachment I own and will own is being sold.

"Loose washer" sound could be related to the PTO brake parts rattling around. With clutch OFF the return spring holds all that together even if it's ineffective. Clutch ON and those brake parts are free to roam around.

How long you wait for repairs is a judgement call. With PTO off, it's not LIKELY to do much more damage. There may well be some shrapnel at the bottom of the case but probably not life threatening. Not sure there is any easy way to access for inspection without major disassembly.

Drained a bit of oil off the bottom of the case today. No metal in the bottom so that's good. I also put two maginets on the hydraulic oil filter. Snow is coming the day after tomorrow so wont be tackling this until spring.
